Although it looks weird and wacky, the Müller-Lyer illusion is an ancient example of a geometrical-optical illusion. It tricks us because we deem a line segment bracketed by two "arrow tails" to be longer than one with two "arrow heads." By making the illusion a moving one, the eyes and mind are tricked even more.
