On a day of filming of the hit TV show Judge Judy, Judith Sheindlin gave her crew quite a scare when she started slurring her speech and looked disoriented.

In 2011, the then 68-year-old judge suffered a benign stroke while on set. She was immediately rushed to the hospital where she stayed under observation overnight. The TV-personality has since described the incident as a ‘wake-up call.'

Following the scare, Sheindlin spoke to Good Morning America about the ordeal.

“I’m fine but it was a very good lesson but it was something, especially women, who usually tend to ignore little signs that something is wrong,” she explained, as cited by the Daily Mail

Luckily enough, the people who were present at the time thought fast and immediately called the paramedics, who arrived on the scene in a timely manner.

“The people that watched me for 15 years noticed something was wrong and without asking, which was probably a very smart thing because I would have said: "Don’t go there", they called paramedics.”

She is likely to have experienced a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA), otherwise known as a ‘mini-stroke’, and has since made a feel recovery.

TIA’s occur when an area of the brain loses blood supply for a short time. It can cause slurred speech, blurred vision, confusion and the inability to follow commands. It doesn’t tend to leave permanent damage on the patient, but can be an indication of other health or lifestyle problems.

We’re glad Judge Judy is ok. Have you ever had a wake-up call like this concerning your health? Let us know in the comments - and make sure you pass this along to your friends and family!
