In an interview on ABC's "Focus on Faith," Joy Behar reveals she was baptized into the Catholic church as an infant. Later, she received her First Holy Communion and was confirmed in this same church. She believed in the teachings of the church throughout her childhood and teenage years.

As she began taking philosophy classes at Queen’s College, Behar told ABC News that she started to question God’s existence, "I started to disbelieve the things that sounded crazy to me. The things that sounded like they made up the story."

Contemplating the works of Socrates and Aristotle caused her to eventually abandon her childhood faith. A beloved priest’s decision to forsake his church career to become a playwright strengthened her resolve to strike out on her own.

Today, Behar draws strength from her family and lifestyle choices. She relies upon her intellect to act as a creative force in the world. She states in the video, that although she respects the faith of others, she currently places her belief in the love of her family rather than an outside deity or organized religion’s teachings.
