‘Jon & Kate Plus 8’ Sextuplets Mark Milestone 18th Birthday

Jon and Kate Gosselin are best known for their reality show “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” which portrayed their life raising their twin daughters, Mady and Cara, as well as their sextuplets Collin, Hannah, Aaden, Joel, Alexis and Leah. While the show was meant to highlight a wholesome family life, it was often surrounded by controversy, especially since Kate and Jon were frequently yelling at one another.

Jon and Kate met back in 1997 and were married in 1999. Their twins were born on Oct. 8, 2000. The family of four more than doubled in size within a few years, as the sextuplets were born on May 10, 2004, in Hershey, Pennsylvania, at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center. It was following the birth of the six babies that the family began appearing on television.

First, they appeared on the reality TV show “Home Delivery,” which centered on the family home being renovated to accommodate the eight children. The family then appeared on multiple Discovery Health specials and were eventually offered a regular series called “Jon & Kate Plus 8.” The series first aired in 2007 and later became “Kate Plus 8” when the couple divorced.

A lot has changed since then, and the family dynamic is definitely very different now than it was in the early 2000s. Many fans of the show might be wondering what happened with the Gosselin kids and what their lives look like today. Believe it or not, the sextuplets are now 18 years old! Read on to find out more about what the family is up to now.

In March 2021, it was reported that Kate was selling her home in Pennsylvania and moving to North Carolina with four of her sextuplets. Mady and Cara graduated from Lancaster Day School in 2019. The twins decided to attend different colleges after high school. 

“They agreed all along that they don’t want to go to the same school,” Kate told People. “Their ambitions are so different that they really felt, there’s not one college that would fully answer what each of them wanted.”

There has been much controversy surrounding the custody of the sextuplets: Hannah, Collin, Aaden, Alexis, Leah and Joel. Collin and Hannah do not get along with their mother and choose to live with their father, who got custody over the two siblings in 2018. It seems Kate does not see the two children much, especially now that she has moved out of state. 

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Hannah explained why she chose to live with Jon:

“I chose to live with my dad, I feel like I just made the choice for myself. I have always been closer with my dad and we’ve always had a strong good relationship. It’s a lot, growing up in a very busy household with lots of kids. And there’s not really a one-on-one relationship, for attention, that you have with your parent. I felt like my dad gave me that attention and a feeling like I had a good solid relationship with a parent.”

Hannah said it was a “difficult decision” leaving her siblings, but she felt like there was “unfair treatment” in Kate’s house. However, she still talks to her mom frequently.

The sextuplets recently reached a milestone birthday and turned 18 years old! While Kate didn’t go too much out of her way for the special occasion, she still made sure that her kids knew she was thinking of them.

“She just, you know, wished me a happy birthday,” Hannah explained. “You know, told me she loved me and it was great, an average birthday text.”

Hannah was also sure to reach out to her siblings that she doesn’t live with to wish them all a happy birthday, too. “Oh, 100% I miss my siblings,” she said. “I mean, we all do share, like the same birthday, it’s a big day for all of us today. As soon as I woke up they texted me happy birthday and I sent them a happy birthday text back.”

According to In Touch, Hannah celebrated turning 18 in style. “My dad got me a fancy Rolls Royce for the evening, and I felt really special,” she said. Sadly, Hannah revealed that “the only thing that was missing” from her party were her siblings, including the other sextuplets.

“I wish they could have been with me so we could all celebrate turning 18 together,” Hannah said. She also mentioned that she celebrated launching her own beauty line called Gosselin Girl, and shared many of her products with her friends at her party, although she wished her siblings could have been there, too.

“It would have been fun to show them my new product line,” Hannah said. “I know they would be really proud of me!”

It’s clear that a lot has changed in the lives of the “Jon & Kate Plus 8” family. We can’t wait to see what else the future holds for them all!
