One of Hollywood's iconic actors is "Pirates of the Caribbean" star Johnny Depp. He has appeared in several of director Tim Burton's films throughout his illustrious career, including "Edward Scissorhands," "Sleepy Hollow," "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," and "Alice in Wonderland." Depp is widely regarded as one of the world's most famous movie stars and was listed as the highest-paid actor by Guinness World Records in 2012.
Depp dropped out of high school and began his career as a musician before moving into acting. He made his movie debut in 1984 with the horror film "A Nightmare on Elm Street." The actor then became a household name with his success on the television series "21 Jump Street." Some of the star's other notable films include "What's Eating Gilbert Grape," "Finding Neverland," and "Donnie Brasco."
In his personal life, Depp has been married and divorced twice. He has also had long-term relationships with other women, including Winona Ryder, Kate Moss and Vanessa Paradis, the mother of his two children. Paradis and Depp were together from 1998 to 2012.
Depp has been on the receiving end of negative publicity, especially after his private life started unfolding in public. In 2015, he married Amber Heard, but she filed for a divorce in 2016, and more information regarding their relationship has since come to life. His kids also did not enjoy spending time with Heard.
Still, Depp has stayed optimistic and has worked hard to keep his loved ones close. Keep reading to learn more about Depp's family and his relationship with his children.
Depp is a father of two: Lily-Rose and Jack. As a public figure, Depp is used to being in the spotlight, but that doesn't mean he wants his children to be as well. Speaking with GQ, he said:
"Then there was that time when the paparazzi were trying to take a photograph of Vanessa and she's pregnant with Lily-Rose and I was not going to let them make a circus out of it. So I did what I had to do. Got her in the car, they didn't get the picture…"
His son Jack had a relatively regular upbringing despite his parents being famous. According to The List, he split his time between Paris, where his mother is from, and Los Angeles, where Depp worked.
Over the years, Depp has spoken about his son and how proud he is of his boy. Depp spoke about Jack's interests as a teenager to the Inquirer, "My boy Jack has always been a very talented draftsman. He draws really super- well. He also plays music very well. He's got a good feel for that. Aside from school plays and things, he hasn't shown any desire to become an actor. Whew!"
Unlike her brother, Lily-Rose had known that she wanted to follow in her father's footsteps in the acting world early on. However, just because Jack did not express this desire early on does not mean he did not want to be like his dad.
Depp said in an interview with Rolling Stone that one incident cemented his love for his son Jack when he had asked his son what he wanted with his life. He was talking about finding out that Jack had already formed a band, seemingly following in his father's footsteps.

Though glimpses into Jack's life have been few and far between, there have been times when the public sees him and is taken aback by his resemblance to his father. One such instance was when Lily-Rose uploaded a photograph of Jack to commemorate his 18th birthday in April 2020. Viewers were taken aback by how much Jack had taken after Depp! There have been very few photos of Jack since this post, however.
Jack has chosen to stay in a more private light, especially as his father has been involved in several highly publicized moments. The List reported that with "Jack's tendency to avoid media attention, it's unlikely he will make a direct statement regarding" any negative matters pertaining to Depp.
However, much of Depp's life story has continued to stay headlines, specifically his past relationship with Heard. According to GQ, Heard filed for divorce due to "irreconcilable differences" in May 2016 after being married to Depp for just over two years. There were several issues within their relationship, and it seems like Depp's children were not always fond of Heard as a stepmother figure. It's previously been reported that Jack and Lily-Rose even "refused to be around" her.
In fact, according to Us Weekly, Lily-Rose didn't even attend her father's wedding to Heard. "My daughter Lily-Rose did not come to the wedding," Depp said. "She and Ms. Heard were not on particularly great terms, for several reasons."
It seems that Depp is now making sure to prioritize his children, as family means everything to him. In an excerpt from the "Johnny Depp Photo Album," Depp spoke highly about his pride and adoration for his children, calling them his "reason to live."
