John Travolta has had a decades-spanning career, but it's hard to forget him as Danny Zuko in "Grease" — the black-haired stud who broke the hearts of women all over the world. After marrying fellow actor Kelly Preston, who herself was a bombshell of her time, the couple had three children and continued their successful careers in Hollywood.
John has been in the spotlight since the 1970s, having graced the screen in many classic movies, including "Grease" and "Saturday Night Fever," through to his famed comeback in the 1990s in "Pulp Fiction," "Get Shorty," "Face/Off," and many more. His late wife Preston, who tragically passed away from breast cancer at the age of 57 in July 2020, was also a well-known actress, starring in movies such as "Jerry Maguire" and "For the Love of the Game."
The couple met on the set of their 1987 film "The Experts." Although Preston was married to someone else, she said in a 2018 interview she "was really with the wrong person" at the time. Her marriage couldn't stop the love from growing, though. The couple started spending more time together, and soon enough, Preston and John married in 1991 and had babies on their minds. Over the following years, their children Jett Travolta, Ella Bleu Travolta and Benjamin Travolta were born. Tragically, however, Jett passed away in 2009 at the age of 16 due to an unexpected seizure and resulting fall. The couple was devasted at the loss of their firstborn.
Since Jett and Preston’s passing, John’s family of three has only gotten closer. John is also a doting dad to Ella and Benjamin, and regularly shares updates about their exploits on social media, including his daughter’s attempt at baking the infamous Tom Cruise cake.

It’s widely known that, during the year-end holidays, megastar Tom Cruise sends out a cake to his Hollywood compatriots. Receiving the delicious treat from the “Top Gun” actor has become somewhat of an unofficial mark of having “made it” in Hollywood.
While it might be fun to picture megastar Cruise busying himself in his kitchen baking piles of cakes for his famous friends come the holiday season, it isn’t quite his style. Instead, the “Mission Impossible” actor orders the $110 white chocolate coconut bundt cake from Doan’s Bakery in Woodland Hills, California. It is also available for order on the Goldbelly website, which describes the dessert as “a ring of moist, luxurious coconut bundt cake, mix in chunks of sweet white chocolate, layer on rich cream cheese frosting, and then dust it all over with toasted coconut flakes. The result is a delicious, pillowy cake good enough to derail the strictest Hollywood diets.”
Among the stars who have received the cake are Tom Hanks and Kirsten Dunst. Comedian Rosie O’Donnell gushed about receiving the cake on a few occasions, the last being in December 2022.
Actress Cobie Smulders, who starred alongside Cruise in “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back,” described receiving the cake to talk show host Jimmy Fallon – who also gets the cake – as the “most glorious time of year.” She added she keeps the cake in her freezer so she can enjoy it until March.
Other celebrities lucky enough to receive the cake include his “Top Gun: Maverick” co-stars Jon Hamm and Miles Teller, and his “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” co-star Henry Cavill, who raved about it. He described the cake to Access Hollywood as “the most decadent, the most amazing, the most surprising cake, to receive from someone like Tom Cruise. I loved it. Smashed it.”

It’s no wonder then that, with such glowing reviews, many have tried their hand at baking the sweet treat, including John’s daughter, Ella. On June 5, 2023, John shared a video on Instagram documenting his daughter’s attempt at baking the bundt cake herself.
In the clip, Ella could be seen whipping up the yellow frosting as her father said, “What do we have here?” Ella replied, “this is a remake of the Tom Cruise cake.” As Ella proceeded to delicately smother the cake in frosting, the camera panned back to a serious-looking John, who said, “I’m watching. I’m watching.” However, the doubtful look on John’s face soon disappeared after taking a bite of his daughter’s handiwork.
In between spoonfuls of the dessert, John praised his daughter on her efforts. “Oh my God, Ella, this is delicious. Oh my goodness! Oh my goodness!” the star remarked to cheers from Ella in the background.
Soon it was time to hear Benjamin’s verdict on the cake. When Ella asked how it tasted, her brother responded, “Good, it’s really good!” Ella then panned the camera to his already half-eaten plate and quipped, “It looks like it!”
Fans took to the comments to laud Ella on her perfect bake, with many urging her to share the recipe.
“I think Ella needs a cooking show. 🥰 looks delicious!” one user wrote, while another remarked, “Wow Ella Bleu!👁👁 That's a tasty masterpiece you've baked, it's even better because it has your dad's and brother's approval. ❤️”
Others remarked on just how sweet doting dad John is with his kids. One user wrote:
“How beautiful! What a great video of a sweet family. I love family time in the Travolta household.”
