Jodie Foster is one of her generation’s most celebrated and talented actresses, with a career that started when she was just 3 years old. Now a prolific actress, Foster, 62, is known for movies such as “Silence of the Lambs,” “Taxi Driver,” and “The Accused.” Her accolades include two Academy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, three BAFTA Awards and a Primetime Emmy Award.
The actress and director attended the Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 5, 2025, where she won an award for Best Female Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television for her role as Liz Danvers in “True Detective: Night Country.” The actress took some time during the night to share her wisdom and talk about where her career stood in the press room.
Foster discussed how she and fellow actresses were now at the “golden age” after their Golden Globe wins, saying:
“It is really, you pay attention as a golden age for people, right?”
She talked about the change that women experience after a specific time and how it frees them from the need to compete. She described it as “an organism that gets released into the bloodstream.”
“I’m not a doctor, so don’t follow me on that one, but it just feels like there’s a hormone that happens, or suddenly you go, ‘Oh, I don’t really care about things anymore. I’m not going to compete for myself,’” the actress said.

Hollywood is known for its ageism and putting pressure on actresses when they reach a certain age. Foster said she no longer carries discontent in her life and is aware of her contribution as an actress to the industry. She also attributed her change in attitude to her age, saying that reaching 60 was the turning point for her. Speaking about this, the actress asserted:
“I’m excited about what’s left of my life and who I’ve become that I can bring to the table,” Foster said. “So for me, this is the most contented moment in my career, and I never would've known that. I just never would’ve known that. But something happened the day I turned 60.”
Foster also spoke about the change that comes with maturity within the industry, saying that it created a community by bringing her together with other seasoned actresses like her fellow nominee, Sofia Vergara. In her acceptance speech, Foster said:
"The greatest thing about being this age and being in this time is having a community of all these people, especially you, Sofía."
She shared that her son, Charlie, 26, is also pursuing a career in acting and joked about giving him acting tips. The “Silence of the Lambs” actress also spoke about the importance of staying authentic and true to oneself and how everything eventually makes sense. She said:
“Honestly, just be yourself. I think they relax. Tell us to relax. It’s crazy. It doesn’t make any sense and it won’t make any sense, but there will come a time, a day where they’ll say, ‘Oh, I see.’”
