Jimmy Fallon Ruined His First Date With Nicole Kidman By Not Talking And Playing Video Games

In a jaw-dropping revelation that sent shockwaves through “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Nicole Kidman, the award-winning actress, spilled the beans about her crush on the show's charismatic host. However, what could have been a match made in Hollywood heaven turned into a cringe-worthy comedy of errors as Fallon apparently missed the memo, leaving Kidman bewildered and wondering if he was gay.

The 2015 interview between Fallon and Kidman remains one of the most hilariously awkward moments in the talk show's history. The interview began innocently enough, with Fallon asking Kidman if she remembered their first meeting.

Kidman's response took everyone by surprise as she recounted her version of the encounter, which was quite different from Fallon's recollections. She detailed a meeting arranged by their mutual friend, Rick, where she was invited to Fallon's apartment.

The actress expected a pleasant date with the charismatic host because she admittedly liked him. However, much to her disappointment, Fallon seemed rather aloof and disinterested. He greeted her with a simple "Hey" while wearing a baseball cap, and even resorted to playing a video game during their hangout.

Brooklyn-born Fallon got his start in Hollywood in 1995 as a stand-up comedian. After auditioning for "Saturday Night Live" more than once, he became a regular on the popular sketch series for two years. Fallon met his wife, producer Nancy Juvonen, on the show but they didn't start dating until over 10 years later.

Kidman, who hails from Australia, was already a breakthrough star in the mid-1990s after earning a Golden Globe nomination for "Billy Bathgate" in 1991. While she didn't mention the year she met Fallon, Kidman said that she was still single at that time. Kidman was married to Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001.

"I just remember I liked you," Kidman said when she appeared on Fallon's show for the interview. "But you wouldn't talk, you didn't say anything."

"And then you put a video game on or something and I'm like,'This is so bad!'," she added.

She proceeded to recount her recollection of their first meeting, which was supposed to be their first date, but after an hour and a half of awkward silence and minimal interaction, Kidman decided to leave, assuming that there was no chemistry between them. She even wondered if Fallon might be gay, trying to find an explanation for his apparent lack of interest.

Fallon, visibly flustered and surprised by Kidman's revelation, buried his head under the table as his audience erupted in laughter and applause. The awkward interview became one of the most memorable moments in the history of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

Despite the missed opportunity, both Fallon and Kidman have moved on in their personal lives. Fallon has been happily married to his wife since 2007, and they have two daughters. Kidman, on the other hand, met and married her second husband, musician Keith Urban in 2006. They also have two girls together.

The next time Kidman visited "The Tonight Show" in 2021, the awkwardness from the first interview continued. Fallon playfully teased Kidman about her engagement in New York and her 15-year marriage to Urban. The actress, ever quick-witted, jokingly alluded to Fallon's apparent surprise at her previous dating confession.

While the chance for romance between Kidman and Fallon may have passed, the two remain good friends and continue to share amusing and unforgettable moments during their interactions.
