Being in the limelight since the age of 17, Jessica Simpson has often spoken about the pressures she has faced regarding her body image and growing up in the public eye as she navigated a music career. After putting on weight with her three pregnancies, public scrutiny surrounding her body image only became worse. The singer has since embarked on a holistic health journey that saw her adopt healthy habits, which led her to lose over 100 pounds in just one year.

Simpson is an American singer, fashion designer and actress. She was signed to Columbia Records in 1997 at the age of 17 after performing for years in her church choir. Her debut album “Sweet Kisses” was released in 1999, followed by her sophomore release, "Irresistible" in 2001.

Outside of her success as a singer, Simpson is known for the time she was married to fellow pop star Nick Lachey. They stayed together for four years until they separated in late 2005. Their divorce was finalized in 2006. Four years later, she found love with NFL star Eric Johnson, whom she ultimately had three children with, Maxwell, Ace and Birdie.

Since then, Simpson’s entertainment career declined, and she has flown relatively under the radar. She became focused on her family and raising her children while also battling her issues with her body. In an interview with Bustle, the mom of three reflected on how the practice of editing her face and body contributes to the worry she has for her children growing up. Keep on reading to learn more about Simpson, her struggles and how she plans to overcome this parenting hurdle.

When Simpson became pregnant with her first child, she gained a lot of weight. She told USA Today that her pregnancy gave her a "big appetite," which made her feel "constantly hungry," leading to a 70-pound weight gain in just nine months. Needless to say, Simpson expressed that "being pregnant for two years took a toll."

According to Women's Health, Simpson had lost 60 pounds by November 2012, thanks to a strict regimen consisting of regular exercise and a balanced, healthy meal plan, courtesy of her personal chef. In the past, Simpson confessed to Entertainment Tonight that she couldn’t even bear to have her husband see her without a white shirt on, which she also took a shower with.

In an interview with Bustle, Simpson talked about how the public’s perception of beauty and body standards has doubled her worry for her children, who are on social media.

"I was going to post a photo because everybody’s down my neck, Jessica, you need to post, Jessica, you need to post. I’m like, OK. Then I go to post and I’m like, oh, but let’s go to the FaceApp (first)," she recalled.

For those who do not know, FaceApp is a popular mobile application that can edit one’s face and body. At first, she recalled agreeing to do it, until it dawned on her the effect of doing that and how it would affect her values and principles in raising her children, two of whom are girls.

"What has done that to me? What is that doing to my daughter? What we're doing on social media is creating this idea of what is beautiful and setting up our lives artificially — to look good for who?" she reflected.
