Jennifer Lopez’s Stepdaughter Violet Affleck Left Us Speechless

A-list celebrity couples are always fun to keep up with, and one of the quintessential pairs is Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, who is also known by the portmanteau “Bennifer.” The term is one of the first instances of a couple’s names being used this way. Both artists are known for their illustrious careers. Affleck is an actor and filmmaker, while Lopez is a singer and actress. The couple has a colorful dating history. The two actors met in 2001 on the set of the film “Gigli.” They first began dating in 2002 and were engaged to be married in 2003. Sadly, their wedding was postponed, and then the pair decided to split up in 2004.

However, during their time together, the couple became an iconic celebrity romance. There were tons of paparazzi photos of the two of them being affectionate that frequently made headlines. This coverage continued when Affleck showed up in Lopez’s music video for her song “Jenny from the Block.”

Before dating Affleck, Lopez had been married twice before. She married Marc Anthony the same year she and Affleck decided to call it quits. She was then married to Anthony until 2014. As for Affleck, he married Jennifer Garner in 2005, and they were together until 2018. They share three children together. 

In 2021, after they both were finally single again, Affleck and Lopez decided to get back together. In July of that year, Lopez confirmed they were dating in a social media post. And just one year later, in July 2022, Bennifer finally tied the knot and officially became husband and wife. Now, Lopez is a stepmother to Affleck’s children.

Affleck was born on Aug. 15, 1972, in Berkeley, California, before moving to Massachusetts. Growing up in New England, he was surrounded by people who worked in the arts and regularly attended theater performances with his brother, Casey Affleck, and their mother. The brothers auditioned for roles in local commercials and film productions since their mom was friends with a casting director in the Cambridge area in Massachusetts.

Affleck landed his first official role when he was 7 years old and went on to work in more theater productions as he grew older. While attending Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, he became close friends with fellow student and future actor Matt Damon. The two had known each other since they were kids, and both wanted to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.

Their dreams became reality, and the two eventually made their way into the acting industry. Their big break came from "Good Will Hunting" in 1997, a movie the pair co-wrote and co-starred in together. Damon had previously written part of the script for a playwriting class at Harvard University and reworked it with Affleck when the two lived together in Los Angeles, California, a few years later. 

Along with the pair of friends, the movie also starred Minnie Driver and Robin Williams and went on to be a commercial success. It earned both Affleck and Damon the Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 1997. Affleck remains the youngest writer to ever win an Oscar for screenwriting to date, as he won the award when he was 25 years old.

Some of Affleck's most notable roles include "Dazed and Confused" in 1993 and "Armageddon" in 1998. He made his directorial debut in 2007 with the film "Gone Baby Gone," which he also had a hand in writing. Affleck showed off all of his talents with the crime drama "The Town" in 2010, a movie he co-wrote, directed and starred in. He continued picking up roles in various film genres, as well as making himself known as a critically acclaimed writer and director. Affleck shocked audiences with his leading role as Batman in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" in 2016, where he starred opposite Henry Cavill.

Along with a great career and plenty of opportunities to highlight his many talents, Affleck has taken yet another step toward furthering himself in the entertainment industry. He is one of the co-owners of Pearl Street Films, a production company he created with his longtime friend Damon.

In 2013, Affleck opened up about how he wanted to do more for the world in a video for the Eastern Congo Initiative, an advocacy-based non-profit organization of which he is a co-founder. He described the organization's purpose and said, "Let's do something to work with people, help them try to make things better in their lives." The Eastern Congo Initiative works to "support the Congolese people as they build health, freedom and prosperity for life," according to the organization's official website.

While Affleck has certainly had a successful career, he has had some highs and lows in his love life.

Affleck and his ex-wife Garner had already known each other and were even friends from their times working together on the sets of "Pearl Harbor" in 2001 and "Daredevil" in 2003. The relationship took off, and the couple married on June 29, 2005, in a private ceremony. Their beautiful family started blossoming shortly after, with their first daughter, Violet, born in December 2005. Their second daughter, Seraphina, was born in January 2009, and their last child and only son, Samuel, was born in February 2012.

Despite a gorgeous family together and their own successful careers, the two actors could not keep their marriage together. Affleck and Garner separated in June 2015, although Affleck continued to live in a guesthouse at the family home until 2017. The couple took the next step and jointly filed for divorce in April 2017, with it being finalized in October 2018. The couple has joint physical and legal custody of all three of their children together.

However, Affleck has since found love again with his former flame, Lopez.

When they were first engaged in 2003, the pair made headlines for being in love but so different from each other. However, they said that they actually have more in common than some might think. Lopez said:

"We've talked about this so many times. And we talked about how people kind of see him with one type of person and me with another type of person, and the two of us together is like 'How did that happen?' and how we're probably more alike and from the same kind of background and, you know, same kind of upbringing and same kind of family and same kind of house."

As a romantic at heart, Lopez especially felt the love between her and Affleck. "I am such a kind of artist in that way, you know, just such a flutter bug in that way," she said. "Where it's just like, you know, the idea of love and fairy tales and romance and all that."

Sadly, the pair had to postpone their wedding in 2003 because of security concerns. They shared a statement at the time: “Due to the excessive media attention surrounding our wedding, we have decided to postpone the date. When we found ourselves seriously contemplating hiring three separate ‘decoy brides’ at three different locations, we realized that something was awry.”

The statement continued: “We began to feel that the spirit of what should have been the happiest day of our lives could be compromised. We felt what should have been a joyful and sacred day could be spoiled for us, our families, and our friends.” 

All of a sudden, however, they were over by early 2004. The public never truly found out what happened between Bennifer, but it is clear that their story wasn't finished.

In 2021, the couple got back together and were seen showing affection to one another at the gym. The biggest news of 2022 for Bennifer was that the couple took one step further and got engaged! Their second engagement has proved that finding the greatest love of your life when you are older is not only possible but can become one of the best things to happen to you. 

Lopez spoke to PEOPLE about what makes their relationship different today as compared to 18 years ago and said, "We're older now, we're smarter, we have more experience, we're at different places in our lives, we have kids now, and we have to be very conscious of those things."

On July 16, 2022, Lopez and Affleck finally tied the knot! According to NBC News, the couple obtained their marriage license in Clark County, Nevada, that same day and wed in Las Vegas. Lopez shared the news on social media and in her newsletter. She wrote, “We did it.” She added:

“Behind us two men held hands and held each other. In front of us, a young couple who made their three-hour drive from Victorville on their daughter's second birthday – all of us wanting the same thing – for the world to recognize us as partners and to declare our love to the world through the ancient and nearly universal symbol of marriage.”

The newsletter continued:

"It was the best possible wedding we could have imagined. One we dreamed of long ago and one made real. So with the best witnesses you could ever imagine, a dress from an old movie and a jacket from Ben’s closet, we read our own vows in the little chapel and gave one another the rings we’ll wear for the rest of our lives.”

After tying the knot, the families are set to live under one happy roof. The Daily Mail reported the couple would be moving into Lopez’s Los Angeles mansion that she has owned for years. And now, Lopez is a proud stepparent to Affleck’s kids, including his daughter Violet.

Born Dec. 1, 2005, in Los Angeles, California, Violet is 17 years old and already almost as tall as her mom. The teen bears a striking resemblance to her mom and is now catching up with her in height as well. According to celebheights.com, Garner is 5'8 while Affleck is 6'3, so it should not come as a surprise that Violet will one day tower over her mother.

According to Daily Mail, Violet and her mother were spotted going into a nail salon for a pamper session in March 2020 in Los Angeles' Brentwood neighborhood. They were dressed almost identically, too, in gray tops, jeans, glasses and slippers, with their hair tied back. Violet had a jacket on, while Garner sported a buttoned cardigan.

Violet has been reported to be "a real mommy's girl," who shares similar personality traits with her famous mom. For example, both enjoy cooking. According to In Touch, Garner is often spotted taking her children to school or to soccer practice. As the eldest child, Violet is allegedly very protective of her younger siblings. "Violet's extremely protective of Seraphina and Samuel and really watches out for her siblings," a source revealed. "She's extremely mature for her age."

Despite growing up in the public eye with such famous parents, Violet has remained level-headed and appears to be like any other teenage girl. She has not yet entered the entertainment industry, although she still has plenty of time to do so, with a bright future full of opportunities ahead of her.

Affleck spoke with Playboy in 2014 about raising his kids while being a prominent figure in the spotlight. He talked about how he and his then-wife had met with California lawmakers to get legislation passed that would prevent paparazzi from getting too close to children and also prevent the stalking behavior of photographers. "You couldn't chill the internet coverage of celebrities if you tried," he said. Affleck continued:

"You can say what you want about me. You can yell at me with a video camera and be TMZ. You can follow me around and take pictures all you want. I don't care. But it's wrong and disgusting to follow children around and take their picture and sell it for money."

Fortunately, Affleck’s children seem to have adjusted well to a lot of changes over the years. As for being part of a blended family, Violet appears to be very welcoming to her new stepmother, Lopez. According to Cosmopolitan, all of Lopez’s and Affleck’s kids were accepting of their engagement and marriage. Affleck had even told his children ahead of time that he was planning on proposing to Lopez well before the rest of the world found out.

And in August 2022, Lopez’s twins Emme and Maximilian, as well as Affleck’s kids Violet, Seraphina and Samuel, gave their parents away in a Georgia wedding celebration, according to PEOPLE. Earlier that month, the blended family had been seen during a family outing in Savannah, Georgia. They also went shopping in an area near Affleck’s Savannah home.

It seems like Lopez and Affleck have done well meshing their two wonderful families together!
