Jennifer Lopez Admits Ben Affleck Stepped Up To Become A 'Wonderful Father Figure' To Her Children

A-list celebrity couples are always fun to keep up with, and one of the quintessential pairs is Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, who are also known by the portmanteau "Bennifer." The term is one of the first instances of a couple's names being used this way. 

Both artists are known for their illustrious careers. Affleck is an actor and filmmaker, while Lopez is a singer and actress. The two met in 2001 on the set of the film "Gigli." They first began dating in 2002 and were engaged to be married in 2003. But sadly, their wedding was postponed, and then the pair decided to split up in 2004. 

After their breakup in 2004, they each went on to marry other people. Lopez married Marc Anthony the same year she and Affleck split; however, they divorced in 2014, while Affleck married Jennifer Garner in 2005, and they were together until 2018.

In 2021, after Lopez and Affleck were both finally single again, they decided to get back together. Lopez confirmed they were dating in a social media post in July of that year. And just one year later, in July 2022, Bennifer finally tied the knot and officially became husband and wife.

Just like many celebrities, Lopez and Affleck's households became intertwined and blossomed into what is now a huge and happy extended family. To give people an idea of what it is like for her own kids to have Affleck as a father, the "Let's Get Loud" hitmaker talked fondly about his dear husband in an interview on the TODAY show with Hoda Kotb. Read on to learn more about Affleck and how great a father he is!

After Affleck's and Garner's divorce in 2018, he reunited with his ex-girlfriend, singer Lopez. Since then, the two have been spotted hanging out, and they eventually tied the knot in Las Vegas last June 2022. Affleck then became a stepfather to Lopez's twins and a father to his own three children with Garner. 

Despite their divorce, Affleck has maintained his respect for his former wife. During his appearance on "The Howard Stern Show," Affleck explained how his mutual respect for Garner laid the foundation of their new relationship following their divorce.

"Did we have moments of tension? Did we have disagreements over the custody? Was stuff difficult for us? Did we get angry? Yes," he said. "But fundamentally, it was always underpinned with respect. I knew she was a good mom. I hope that she knew that I was a good dad. I was."

For Affleck, fatherhood always comes first. He even confessed that the most crucial thing in his life was his children. In an interview with People Magazine, Affleck stated that his children were the focal point of his life.

"My life right now is focused on, for sure, being a dad, and that's the most important thing to me," Affleck said. 

Her eldest, Violet, 17, is almost the spitting image of her mother. Seraphina Rose, 14, came second, and Samuel, their youngest, is now 11 years old. Garner and Affleck have been responsibly and brilliantly co-parenting their children for years already, and with the addition of Lopez's two kids, the family grew bigger and happier.

For some who may not know, Lopez has two children – fraternal twins, Emme and Maximilian.

Lopez says she loves her twins and how they help balance out her life. She also really likes how deeply bonded the two children are. Her busy schedule means her family acts as the primary caregivers for her kids; she refuses to hire a nanny. Thankfully, she has some help from Affleck. 

Sharing to the TODAY Show, Lopez has spoken fondly about her beautiful children who are growing up to become beautiful, fine teenagers. 

"They're becoming adults. They are challenging everything in life, they're looking at everything. And these kids have so much information, so much more than we had. So they're thinking and talking about things and about life in a different way than I did when I was 15 or 16 years old," she discussed.

Elsewhere in the interview, she gushed about how his husband has become an important part of her children's life. 

"They love Ben," she told Kotb in the interview. "He's a wonderful, wonderful father and father figure to them as well 'cause he has his own three beautiful children and then there's us."

Not only was Affleck a great father to his kids, but also to her kids as well. Lopez noted that the "Batman" actor was "fantastic" and has stepped up to the challenge of being a stepfather. "They appreciate him and so do I," she continued.

Her mother, on the other hand, was a solid Bennifer fan through and through. In another TODAY interview, Lopez's mother, Guadalupe Rodríguez, confessed that she has "prayed for 20 years" for them to get back together!
