After rising to fame as Rachel Green on the hit television sitcom “Friends,” Jennifer Aniston has been one of the most beloved actresses to grace the world of entertainment. The role earned Jennifer a handful of awards, and it’s clear that her career has only taken off since her breakthrough.

Between winning awards and constantly working, Jennifer made sure to keep some time available in her personal life. Although the actress had been in tumultuous relationships with her exes like Brad Pitt and Justin Theroux, Jennifer went on to have a happy life and a very successful career in film and television.

Jennifer married Pitt in 2000 and broke up five years later. She went on to marry Theroux in 2015 but eventually separated in 2017.

Despite this, Jennifer finally found some peace in her personal life over the years. She lives in a very zen-filled home and has kept much of her private life out of the media, aside from her previous relationships.

Unbeknownst to many, Jennifer had a rocky relationship with her father, actor John Aniston and a challenging one with her mother, Nancy Dow. In the past, the actress had been public about her past feelings towards both of them; but later on, she learned how to heal those wounds and eventually came to be on good terms with them.

In an Instagram post, Jennifer penned an emotional and thoughtful message to her parents, who have both already passed away. Read on to learn more about Jennifer’s relationship with her parents and her message to them.

Jennifer's father John was an actor best known for his time on the soap opera “Days of Our Lives.” Her mother was the late model and actress Dow. They lived as a married couple from 1965 to 1980, which is when the former suddenly disappeared from Jennifer's life without warning. Dow was also caught off-guard and did her best to adjust as a newly single mother. However, there were some complications along the way.

As a grown-up, the actress candidly opened up regarding the pain of her family relationships during childhood.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jennifer and her mother, Dow, didn’t speak for many years. She talked about how critical her mother used to be of her during her childhood.

“She was critical. She was very critical of me. Because she was a model, she was gorgeous, stunning. I wasn’t. I never was. I honestly still don’t think of myself in that sort of light, which is fine. She was also very unforgiving. She would hold grudges that I just found so petty,” she told the outlet.

Jennifer took in all the pain and hardships that she felt from her relationship with her mother, even becoming happy leaving their home.

“My house was not a fun house to live in. I was thrilled to get out,” she confessed to Allure Magazine.

However, ABC News reported that Jennifer’s divorce from Pitt was actually one of the turning points in rekindling their relationship. In 2016, Dow passed away at the age of 79 after suffering a longstanding battle with a stroke.

Her father, John, on the other hand, was an absentee father. John was famous for portraying the well-loved Victor Kiriakis on the NBC daytime drama series “Days of Our Lives.” He started playing Kiriakis in 1985 and portrayed him for 37 years before he passed on Nov. 11, 2022, John passed away at the age of 89.

He and Jennifer managed to rekindle their relationship before his passing. Jennifer recounted to Rolling Stone that her father appeared again one day, out of the blue, after leaving her and her mother in the early 80s.

“He just called one day and said, ‘Let’s go see ‘The Fantasticks.’' So we had a little dinner and saw the show. After that, I started seeing him on weekends, and this new way of life just unfolded,” “The Morning Show” producer explained

In 2022, John received a Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award for his role on “Days of Our Lives,” and in a beautiful gesture, the award was presented to him by Jennifer in an inspiring video tribute.

“This is truly a special moment for me,” she said. “It’s an opportunity to not only pay tribute to a true icon in the daytime television world, but it’s also a chance to recognize the lifelong achievements of a great and well-respected actor, who also happens to be my dad.”

She added that John garnered roles on “all types of now classic television programs” such as “Combat!” “Mission: Impossible” and “Kojak,” for over half a century but is probably best known for having appeared in “nearly every soap opera imaginable.”

“Sweet papa…⁣ John Anthony Aniston. You were one of the most beautiful humans I ever knew. I am so grateful that you went soaring into the heavens in peace - and without pain,” she wrote. “And on 11/11 no less! You always had perfect timing. That number will forever hold an even greater meaning for me now. I’ll love you till the end of time.⁣ Don’t forget to visit.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the soap opera veteran passed away last Nov. 11, 2022. John’s cause of death was not publicized, and Jennifer did not provide any more details in her Instagram post.

In celebration of her 54th birthday, Jennifer took the time to thank her parents, who have both since passed away, in a birthday post alongside a throwback photo of them.

“Thinking about these two humans that created me as I bask in the afterglow of a beautiful birthday. Thank you ALL for my beautiful birthday wishes. I felt sooooo much love from so many and ALL of it is going to carry me through this wild and beautifully unknown year ahead. I love you!” she wrote in the caption.
