As a member of the famous Jackson family, Janet Jackson is no stranger to the music industry and living her life in the spotlight. She is the youngest sibling in her famous family. While it's clear that Jackson was inspired by her older siblings, she has certainly made a name for herself and paved her own way for her solo career.

Jackson was born on May 16, 1966, and was raised with a love for music. She is known for incorporating elements of rhythm and blues, funk, disco, rap and industrial beats into her songs. Not only is Jackson a great singer and songwriter, but she is incredibly talented as a dancer. She even has credits as an actress, really proving just how well-rounded this star is.

The talented woman first began her career with a variety television series called "The Jacksons," which ran from 1976–1977, and has since catapulted into stardom. She appeared on several other shows throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Jackson's unique sound and impeccable choreography made her a household name during the 1980s and 1990s as she worked to break barriers.

Being part of such a famous family, it's hardly surprising that Jackson became somewhat of a lightning rod for controversy. After her infamous Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction in 2004, Jackson had stayed on the low since.  While time has since tempered the shock of the incident, Jackson was again the focus of media attention when she gave birth to her first son, Eissa Al Mana, in 2017. Her son gave Jackson a meaningful purpose, not just as a musician, but also as a mother.

Read on to find out more about Jackson’s realizations after giving birth to her son at 50 years old, an age many consider to be too old to give birth.

In 2006, Jackson met Qatari businessman Wissam Al Mana and began officially dating in 2010. Two years later, Al Mana and Jackson engaged and married privately in 2012. To everyone’s shock, in 2017, a then 50-year-old Jackson announced that they were expecting their first child together.

Unfortunately, the two divorced months after Jackson gave birth to Eissa. Since then, Jackson has been a superhuman single mom, raising her child in her 50s, while also embarking on a tour just eight months after his birth.

The hardworking mother-musician wanted to take her child along with her while on tour, but despite this, it is important to her to raise Eissa as her mother raised her.

“It is hard being a working mother,” she told Stellar, as quoted by Herald Sun. “I don’t have a nanny. I do it all myself. If my mother did it with nine children, there’s no reason I can’t. Of course, when I’m working someone watches him, but it’s my baby and me. It’s not easy at times, but my life has changed. Obviously my baby comes first.”

Having her son Eissa at a late age is a dream come true for Jackson. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar in 2009, Jackson said that she would adopt: “And I think that if I’m really supposed to have kids, it will happen if that’s God’s plan for me.”

In her free time, Jackson still spends most of her time with her son — taking him to the museum, and parks, or even a little playtime with his cousins. Paparazzi might be a problem at some times, but for an experienced artist like Jackson, she does it anyways — smiling for the cameras and being cordial always.

On many occasions, Jackson has been very vocal about her faith and belief in God. After her infamous wardrobe malfunction in 2004, Jackson credited religion for getting her through the controversy, and for her, that is something that she wants to pass on and instill in Eissa:

“The foundation of being grounded and also of a higher power. Knowing who he is and that we are all equal no matter the race or gender. And that he is to be respectful towards others but also that others are respectful to him,” the singer told InStyle Magazine, as quoted by UPI.

Eissa is truly a blessing for Jackson. She said that her son has shown her that “love, no matter how deeply you believe you have experienced that emotion, can always go deeper.”

Jackson, 58, is overflowing with a profound love for her son, attributing him as the source of her beauty and strength to go on.

"I feel like I'm being corny here, but it's just the honest truth: I feel most beautiful when I'm with my son, because of the gift that God has given me and that he allowed me to do so at that age," the “Control” singer said.

When asked about her plans for her career in music in the future, Jackson has a rather direct but indefinite answer.

“Even though it’s something that I absolutely love, it still is my work, my job. There will be music at some point. Exactly when? I can’t say just yet, but there will be. I love it too much not to do it. This is all I know. There’s so much that I want to do — but my number one job is being a mama,” Jackson told Essence Magazine.
