Jack Depp Chose Very Private Life Amid Father Johnny Depp’s Turbulent Public Trials

One of Hollywood's most iconic actors is "Pirates of the Caribbean" star Johnny Depp. He has appeared in several of director Tim Burton's films throughout his illustrious career, including "Edward Scissorhands," "Sleepy Hollow," "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," and "Alice in Wonderland." Johnny is widely regarded as one of the world's most famous movie stars and was listed as the highest-paid actor by Guinness World Records in 2012. 

Johnny dropped out of high school and began his career as a musician before moving into acting. He made his movie debut in 1984 with the horror film "A Nightmare on Elm Street." The actor then went on to become a household name with his success on the television series "21 Jump Street." Some of the star's other notable films include "What's Eating Gilbert Grape," "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," "Finding Neverland," and "Donnie Brasco." 

In his personal life, Johnny has been married and divorced twice. He has also had long-term relationships with other women, including Winona Ryder, Kate Moss and Vanessa Paradis, who is the mother of his two children. Paradis and Depp were together from 1998 to 2012.

Johnny has been on the receiving end of negative publicity, especially after his private life started unfolding in public. In 2015, he married Amber Heard, but she filed for a divorce in 2016, accusing Johnny Depp of abuse. Paradis and some of the actor's colleagues are among the people defending Depp, saying that he is decent and not abusive.

In 1998, Johnny met Vanessa Paradis while in France filming “The Ninth Gate.” He recalled the moment in an interview with Daily Mail. For him, it was "love at first sight." "She was wearing a dress with an exposed back," Depp recalled, adding, "and I saw that back and that neck, and then she turned around and I saw those eyes, and — boom."

"My life as a single man was done" he recounted. 

Depp went further to describe the feeling he had looking at Paradis. "You have this feeling — I can't really explain what it was, but I had it when I met her," he recalled. "I saw her across a room and thought: "What's happening to me."

Their whirlwind romance lasted for 14 years, and although the couple never wed, they welcomed two children together. In an interview with Extra, Depp explained why he and Paradis never wed. "Marriage is really from soul to soul, heart to heart," he told the outlet. "You don't need somebody to say, OK you're married.”

Although Depp's relationship with Paradis ended in 2012, the actor still speaks fondly of his former love. "She's a great mother and a great woman," he said. "And when you've got a woman who's been good to you, who you have a couple of kids with, you don't just abandon ship. The love may change, but you keep loving her, no matter what."

Lily-Rose and Jack Depp seem to enjoy each other's company quite a bit based on their social media posts. The siblings often post photos of themselves hanging out together. Their mother is Paradis — a French actress and singer.

In an exclusive with Rolling Stone in 2013 Depp said, “With my kids, they’re told 75 times a day that they’re loved. One thing I know is they feel loved and secure and happy and needed and necessary and a part of something.” 

Over the years, Johnny has spoken about his son and how proud he is of his boy. Johnny spoke about Jack's interests as a teenager to the Inquirer, "My boy Jack has always been a very talented draftsman. He draws really super- well. He also plays music very well. He’s got a good feel for that. Aside from school plays and things, he hasn’t shown any desire to become an actor. Whew!"

Though glimpses into Jack's life have been few and far between, there have been times when the public sees him and are taken aback by his resemblance to his father. One such instance was when Lily-Rose uploaded a photograph of Jack to commemorate his 18th birthday in April 2020. Viewers were taken aback by how much Jack has taken after Johnny! There have been very few photos of Jack since this post, however. 

Jack has chosen to stay in a more private light, especially as his father has been involved in a highly publicized trial with his ex-wife Amber Heard. The List writes that with "Jack's tendency to avoid media attention, it's unlikely he will make a direct statement regarding the lawsuit."

Depp told GQ in 2018 that the lawsuit has had an impact on Jack. “I’m sure it wasn’t easy for my 14-year-old boy to go to school; you know what I mean? With people going, ‘Hey, look at this magazine, man. What, your dad beats up chicks or something?’ Why did he have to go through that? Why did my daughter have to go through that?”
