You've heard the term "man cave" before. But how about a cave that was secretly beneath Grand Central Station in New York?
Unbeknownst to their employers, a group of railroad employees built a secret party room beneath the famous train station–and it was all fun and games until they were discovered in September 2020.

If it hadn't been for a tip from an anonymous individual, the secret room might have never been discovered. But in August 2019, a group of security officials received a tip about suspicious activity going on beneath the train station, reports the New York Post.
We don't know what the officials were thinking when they went to investigate, but if they were like most people, they were probably expecting to find a secret drug ring or a gang hideout. Instead, the truth was funnier and more shocking than they could have ever imagined.

The officials discovered a "man cave" that had been built in a small storage space beneath the train station. The room was fully equipped with a flat-screen TV, a microwave, a futon, and a refrigerator for beer and snacks. They even went through the trouble to build wooden cabinets to store the futon and TV after they left for the night.
This secret hideaway was built by three railroad employees: an electrician, a carpenter, and a wireman. The three men decided that they needed a place to hang out and relax in the middle of their workday. During their shifts, they'd sneak off and head to the secret room, where they relaxed on the futon, drank beer, ate snacks, and watched TV. We have to admit, it doesn't sound like a bad way to spend the day!
Of course, the authorities caught them after the anonymous tip. According to the New York Post, the men claimed that they'd never seen the room before. Unfortunately, this wasn't enough to convince the authorities, and the three men ended up being suspended from their jobs without pay. If they wanted more free time to kick back and relax, it looks like they got it! And while the men might have been enjoying themselves, it seems like not everyone feels the same way.
In fact, New Yorkers have complained about the fact that the men were able to sneak away and goof off while taxpayers were paying their salaries. We have to admit that this doesn't seem like the best use of their time and don't recommend it to anyone reading this article. But still, we have to admit that this was a pretty clever idea that took a lot of thought and creativity. As you can see in the video, they weren't shy about making themselves right at home!
In addition to the TV and refrigerator, the secret room also contained receipts, calendars, exercise equipment and streaming devices. If they hadn't left personal receipts and calendars in the room, they might have had plausible deniability. Unfortunately, it's hard to deny that you've been in the room when there's a receipt with your name on it. Still, at least they were staying in shape while they were down there!
However you feel about this story, there's no denying that these workers were clever. What do you think about this fascinating news story? Give us your thoughts in the comments, and don't be afraid to send this story to any friends or family members who could use a laugh to start their day.
