Despite confirming to the showrunners days before that she would not be performing at the Oscars ceremony, Lady Gaga took the stage at the Dolby Theatre in California and pulled out a last-minute show on March 12, 2023.
She ditched her Versace gown and full face makeup for a pair of black jeans, a plain black shirt, and a rundown pair of sneakers.
“It’s deeply personal for me, and I think that we all need each other. We need a lot of love to walk through this life,” Lady Gaga explained before performing the song.
While sitting on a stool, barefaced, Lady Gaga gave a soulful and heartfelt performance of her Oscar-nominated song “Hold My Hand.”
The crowd gave her resounding applause and a standing ovation after her performance. But it wasn’t the only round of applause she received after the ceremony.
Hours before her now-viral performance, Lady Gaga was seen helping out a photographer on the Champagne carpet who got into a small accident.
In a video shared by Pop Base, the 36-year-old singer instinctively rushed to the photographer who had just passed by her as he tripped. As soon as the photographer regained his balance, Lady Gaga asked her how he was doing, to which the latter responded positively.
People online had nothing but positive comments on her very thoughtful action.
“Notice how she didn't even think about it, it was in her reflex to help him, she's just genuinely sweet and kind,” a user said.
“Notice how she was the ONLY one who motioned to help! The world needs more people like her, she’s a class act,” someone shared.
