The ’90s was the decade in which phenomenal actress Julia Roberts gave us some of her best work. From timeless romantic movies like “Notting Hill” and “Runaway Bride,” to classics like “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” the actress was the face of the decade. It’s thus easy to understand why the actress is the queen of rom-coms, with some of the highest domestic box-office earnings in modern cinema.

“Pretty Woman” is perhaps one of Roberts’ most-watched movies, and it’s so easy to rewatch time and time again. The romantic comedy stars Roberts alongside celebrated actor Richard Gere, who was also her co-star in “Runaway Bride.” While the movie was initially meant to be about the social disparities between the wealthy upper class and sex workers, the tone eventually changed after Disney adapted the movie. Ultimately, “Pretty Woman” became a timeless romantic film, with the highest ticket sales for a romantic comedy at the time.

The film catapulted Roberts to success as a Hollywood star, paving the way for some of her later great works. Interestingly, Gere wasn’t the first choice for the male lead, as producers initially wanted Al Pacino for the role. Pacino turned down the role after initial chemistry readings with Roberts. While he never disclosed his reasons for deciding not to take on the role of Edward in the film, he later admitted that he could see the film’s potential from early on.

“I mean, you could tell at the reading, this is going to be good, this is going to be a hit picture. You just knew it,” he said.

Like this, there are more interesting trivia and mistakes even those who have watched the movie countless times have yet to notice. Read on to find out some of the most interesting ones.

The Movie Poster

The poster for “Pretty Woman” is one of cinema’s most iconic. On the poster, Gere and Roberts stand with their backs against each other; Gere looks dapper, and Roberts looks svelte. As the poster is meant to give some idea of the movie, this one aptly captures the main characters in “Pretty Woman” as they should be. However, most people never notice that while Gere spots dark hair in the poster, his hair throughout the movie is gray.

However, the most mind-blowing fact about the poster pertains to Roberts’ image. No one could’ve ever guessed that while Roberts’ head and face depict her character of Vivian, the body in the picture does not, in fact, belong to the actress. Instead, Roberts’ face had been superimposed onto the body of model and actress Shelley Michelle.

The Croissant Scene

There is a scene in the movie in which Gere’s character orders room service for Roberts. The scene begins with Roberts eating a croissant, but it turns into a pancake. Director Garry Marshall’s explanation for this error was that he preferred the footage filmed when Roberts ate the pancake and kept that instead. To make it more interesting, even the pancake itself is not the same in the shots, showing different bite patterns.

Disappearing ‘Tricks’

There are two interesting scenes in which there are continuity errors with regard to disappearing props. In the scene where Edward and Vivian go to the opera and then the park afterward, Roberts takes off Gere’s shoes. However, when he lies down in the next scene, the shoes are strangely back on his feet again.

A similar mistake involves Vivian’s boots. At some point, Edward gives her a $100 bill, which she puts in her boot for safekeeping. Later, when she removes the boots, the money is nowhere to be seen and has disappeared.

Regardless of all these little mistakes, the movie remains unforgettable!
