Singing sensation Linda Ronstadt made headlines again when she released an album in 2019, after having retired from music in 2009 after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

Ronstadt’s 2019 album, "Linda Ronstadt – Live in Hollywood," was released and rocketed to the top of the music charts.

The album came from then-newly uncovered clips of a concert Ronstadt performed in 1980 when she was at the height of her career.

In addition to being sold out in many stores at the time of its release, "Live in Hollywood" also garnered nearly universal critical acclaim, with many music industry insiders predicting it would win a Grammy. Despite not winning for the album, Ronstadt has an impressive 11 Grammy Awards to her name.

While she promoted the album, Ronstadt sat down with Tracy Smith of CBS Sunday Morning. In her interview, Ronstadt told of the difficulty she faced following her Parkinson’s diagnosis. The iconic rock star said that she first started seeing the signs of Parkinson’s in 2000 when her voice began faltering in the middle of songs.

A slow-moving disease, Ronstadt said that the condition eventually made it impossible for her to sing. While she can still speak with ease, Ronstadt says that singing is an immensely complex action that she is prevented from doing because of her illness.

Moving on from discussing her diagnosis, Ronstadt told Smith of all the wonderful musicians she performed with over the years.

Among her favorite collaborations were those done with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris. Ronstadt began her music career at the young age of 14, performing with her brother and sister. Ronstadt then moved to Los Angeles, releasing her first solo album, "Hand Sown … Home Grown," in 1969. Following the album’s release, Ronstadt’s journey rocketed her to stardom.

By far the biggest praise Ronstadt has received is due to her incredible ability to perform a plethora of different types of music. In her heyday, Ronstadt performed everything from country to rock to Latin.

The recipient of 11 Grammy Awards, most of Ronstadt’s albums have earned gold, platinum, or multiplatinum status. Additionally, Ronstadt is a great humanitarian, supporting music education in schools. In 2014, Ronstadt was awarded the National Medal of Arts and Humanities by President Barack Obama.
