When Lina Medina became a mother to a healthy baby boy, she was only five years old. She went down in history as the youngest girl to have ever given birth.

Lina Medina was born in 1933 in Ticrapo, Peru. In 1939, Medina’s mother took her to the doctors because of an enlarged abdomen.  According to the Sun, doctors initially thought the girl had a tumor, however, later found out she was seven months pregnant after running tests. Her father was initially arrested on suspicion of incest but was later released due to lack of evidence.

Medina subsequently gave birth to a 6.5 Lbs healthy baby boy on May 14 named Gerardo, after the doctor who delivered him.

Medina is believed to have had ‘precocious puberty’, a condition that occurs when a girl goes through puberty before the age of 9. The now-86-year-old is reported to have had her first period at just three years old.

Eighty years later, Medina is still thought to be the youngest female to have ever given birth.

According to the publication, Gerardo was raised alongside his mother, believing her to be his sister instead. He found out Medina was actually his mother at the age of 10 and died in 1979 at the age of 40 from bone disease.

Lina Medina, now 86, still lives in Peru but has generally refused to talk to the press about her story.
