Identical Twin Sisters Deliver Babies On The Same Day In Neighboring Hospital Rooms

Giving birth to and raising twins can be quite stressful and expensive as they require double the time and effort it takes to care for one child. However, it also comes with a feeling of reassurance for the parents because they know that the twins have forever playmates who will always have their backs.

Twins often want to do everything together, especially when they are of the same gender. Hence, it is not uncommon to find twins wearing the same clothes, wearing the same hairstyle and using the same items. Many even go as far as wanting to get married on the same day. There are many instances of twins getting married on the same day and sometimes to twins as well.

However, it is rare to find twin sisters giving birth to their babies on the same day, with the odds standing at one in 12,500, according to a mathematics professor at Brookdale Community College, Olga Malpica Proctor. Yet, despite the rarity of twins giving birth on the same day, this was the case with identical twin sisters from Pennsylvania who live 15 minutes away from each other and had no idea this was going to happen.

Rebecca Lawrence and Christina Keefer delivered their babies at the WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital on May 25, 2023, just hours apart from each other, after one sister started having contractions at the same time her sister was delivering. The rare event had many people, including the hospital staff, wowed. Continue reading to find out more about the birth experience and reactions to the development.

Rebecca Lawrence and Christina Keefer recently made headlines when they gave birth to their babies on May 25, 2023, at the same hospital. Both sisters became pregnant just weeks apart, and when Keefer went to the hospital to visit her sister, who went in for a scheduled induction on May 23, 2023, little did she know she would give birth soon. To her surprise, she went into labor during the visit.

Speaking to Good Morning America, Keefer said, "Having contractions while she was giving birth was so strange because it's like, as she's in pain, I'm in pain, so it was kind of like sympathy pains in a way. I kept asking questions because I wanted to know personally how it feels, like what do I have to experience in the next few hours?"

Lawrence gave birth to her daughter Raylynn at 12:07 a.m. on May 25, 2023, while Keefer gave birth to a son Xavian at 1:17 p.m. in a room next to her sister's. The sisters were also able to watch the other give birth thanks to the hours between each delivery and went home one day after the other.

Moreover, their babies also had identical measurements when they were born, with Lawrence's baby weighing 8 lbs, 3 oz., and was 20 inches long, while Keefer's baby weighed 8 lbs, 12 oz., and was 20.5 inches long.

It turned out that the sisters were not the only ones who were stunned by the development. The twins not only shared similar delivery days but also shared the same midwife. According to the midwife, Damara Jenkins, that was her first experience with such. "It's definitely a rarity," she told GMA. "I've been doing this for over 20 years and never experienced that before, so it was a lot of fun."
