Ice-T worked his way to the top before becoming one of the biggest rappers in the 1980s and '90s. Becoming an underground rapper in the early 1980s made him persevere until he got signed on to Sire Records in 1987, the same year he released his debut album, "Rhyme Pays."
The year after, Ice-T founded his own record label, Rhyme $yndicate Records, named after his own hip-hop collective. Later on, he earned his first-ever Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for his collaboration on "Back on the Block." He was nominated twice again before earning another gramophone in 2021 for Best Metal Performance for "Bum-Rush."
Apart from his successful music career, Ice-T catapulted into fame because of his acting career, eventually landing the role of Sergeant Odafin "Fin" Tutuola in the hit crime series "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," along with Mariska Hargitay. He joined the cast in Season 2 and has been deemed by Entertainment Tonight as the longest-running actor in television history, with over 450 episodes under his belt.
Aside from being known because of his music and acting, Ice-T was also known for his family. He has three children from three different partners, but despite this complex setup, the rapper-actor has maintained a good relationship with his children.
Notably, Ice-T had his children at three different points in his life, which meant that each kid had a unique experience from another. In an interview on May 9, 2023, on the "That Moment with Daymond John" podcast, Ice-T thoroughly detailed how it differed, especially for his youngest kid, Chanel, the most prominent among the three. Keep on reading to learn more about Ice-T and his kids.
Ice-T's first kid came in 1976. He had LaTesha Marrow, 47, with his high school girlfriend Adrienne when he was 18 years old. Speaking to People Magazine back in 2020, Ice-T reflected on his parenthood principles were different from when he was younger:
"When I had my first kid I was in the middle of the wildness of becoming Ice-T, all the people that were after me, and I had my head down. I really wasn't concentrating on them, I was concentrating on survival."
Thanks to LaTesha, Ice-T finally became a first-time grandfather when she welcomed her son, Elyjah Marrow, in 1995. Little is known about LaTesha and her kids as she tries to avoid the spotlight, but she and Elyjah can be seen on several episodes of "Ice Loves Coco," a reality show of Ice-T.
In the "That Moment with Daymond John" podcast, the rapper also talked about his second child and only son, Tracy Marrow, 31, commonly known as "Lil Ice." He had Ice with famous author Darlene Ortiz back in 1991.
"My son, Ice, happened right when I was becoming Ice T. I'd never been famous before. This is a whole new thing so I'm distracted by that," he confessed.
Elsewhere in the interview, he also noted that he was absent in a larger sense when his children were growing up, which is a stark contrast to his upbringing with his youngest kid, Chanel:
"I think the difference with Chanel and my other kids is I'm very conscious of this baby. I was ripping and running, so it was presents over presence. I wasn't there."
Tracy went on to follow in Ice-T's footsteps and pursued music. He became a part of his father's heavy metal band, Body Count and has performed various times with him in the past.

As for Chanel, Ice-T's parenting is much more conscious and present compared to his older children.
Born on November 2015, Chanel came into the world when Ice-T was already one of the most revered television stars. Her mother, Coco Austin, is also one of the most prominent reality television personalities at the time.
On the "That Moment with Daymond John" podcast, Ice-T reflected on the difference between his parenting with Chanel and his involvement in the process, even revealing that his daughter, 7, still snugs in them at night on their bed:
"I'm comfortable. I'm in a cruise pattern. I was there when Coco was pregnant. I went to the hospital, and (Chanel) now still sleeps in the bed with us. I'm so much more connected to her than my other kids ... it's been a beautiful thing."
Despite being married to Coco since January 2002, they waited more than a decade before having a child – a principle he has lived by since.
"Muhammad Ali said it best, 'When a man has a child in the second half of his life, after 50, it resets his life. It started my life over," he revealed. "I got back healthy, now I'm back in the gym, I'm looking good, sharp, I'm strong. I've got to live. I can't go nowhere. I've got to keep chasing these bags. I got a baby girl."
On Instagram, Coco frequently posts photos of the three of them together, especially of her and Chanel. In a post, the doting mother posted a stylish photo of them together, talking about how they are "literally" and figuratively "attached to the hip" as she brings her little baby girl everywhere.
Little Coco might be the spitting image of her father, but she is growing to be as fashionable as her mother.
