I Stopped Chasing After You, But I Never Stopped Wanting You

You always text first, sometimes multiple times. You like most of the pictures they post on social media. But not too many as to not seem needy. You compliment them. You get dressed up for them. You invite them over every weekend.

You tell them you miss them when they aren’t around. You get dressed up for them when you know they will be around. You make room for them in your life even when it is not easy. You go out of your way to make time for them when you have little to spare. You make them a priority in your life.

But they ignore your texts and send you different signals when they are with you. You get mad at them but forgive them all too quickly. You make excuses for their behavior. You keep up the chase because you think they are worth it. You think they will realize you are worth the risk. You think they are just scared of a relationship. You tell yourself they are worth waiting for.

You keep it up and you can’t stop. You can’t resist talking to them. You can’t resist daydreaming about them. You can’t hold back.

But you get tired. You are exhausted. You are the one putting in all of the effort. You stop sending the first text. You stop making all of the plans. You accept the fact you will always be the one to put in all of the effort.

You don’t stop wanting them. You don’t stop wishing for them. You don’t stop looking at their pictures or wishing to be with them. You don’t stop imagining the world you wanted together. You give up for yourself. You walk away for your own good. Even though they are all you want, you stop chasing them.
