Howie Mandel Rushed To Hospital After Fainting At L.A. Coffee Shop

“America’s Got Talent” (AGT) judge Howie Mandel collapsed at a Starbucks in the Woodland Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles on Wednesday, Oct. 13. According to reports from TMZ, paramedics rushed Mandel, 65, to a hospital in nearby Tarzana. Photos show Mandel sitting up on his own in front of the Starbucks as the Los Angeles Fire Department and paramedics arrived.
In September, Mandel finished filming for “AGT’s” 16th season, and since then, it seems the television star has spent much of his time enjoying his free time. His Instagram account has featured videos of him visiting The Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi in Santa Fe, New Mexico and boating off the coast of the Channel Islands.
Mandel has also been busy with his Podcast, “Howie Mandel Does Stuff,” which has Mandel and his daughter Jackelyn Shultz, 36, talk with celebrities and comics from Jo Koy to Brad Williams. A day before his fall, Mandel posted a new episode with Bob Saget, the former “America’s Funniest Home Videos” host and “Full House” star.
In previous interviews, Mandel has spoken openly about problems with his health, specifically regarding his anxiety and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
In a TikTok video posted earlier this week, Mandel also shared a video from the hospital, where he received an endoscopy and colonoscopy. It’s unknown, however, whether the medical procedure is linked to Mandel’s fall on Wednesday.
Around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Mandel took to Twitter to provide an update on his condition and to offer an explanation for the fall.
“I am home and doing better. I was dehydrated and had low blood sugar. I appreciate the great doctors and nurses that took such good care of me. Thank you to everyone who reached out but I am doing ok!” Mandel wrote on Twitter.
Fans of the star and other television personalities offered Mandel well wishes in response to his Tweet.
“Sorry to hear this happened to you, Howie! Same thing happened to me, but at Ralphs. Spent half of the day at the hospital before going back for my groceries. Not an easy way to spend a Sunday morning/afternoon! Hope you're feeling better soon!” Gracie tweeted.
“(E)veryone here at @NBCLA is thinking of you Howie and sending our best,” wrote Robert Kovacik, an anchor and reporter for NBC Los Angeles.
Beyond his OCD and anxiety, Mandel has also spoken out about his high cholesterol and is part of the Take Cholesterol to Heart campaign. When he was in his 40s, Mandel’s test results indicated that he had cholesterol levels over the acceptable limit of 200 mg/dL, the “AGT” star told the Houston Chronicle.
“It didn’t mean anything at the time, so I didn’t take care of it,” Mandel said in his 2019 interview with the paper. “I run every day, eat healthy and I stay physically fit. I didn’t feel bad, so it was like going to a computer store and they try to sell you all the technology that you don’t really need for your laptop.”
But since then, Mandel has been advocating for people to get their blood tested early and to do something about those high levels.
“You can’t make an informed decision on your own health without being a professional,” Mandel told the Houston Chronicle.
We wish Mandel a speedy recovery.
