How To Tell The Difference Between Fraternal And Identical Twins

Jun 05, 2018 by apost team

For many years people have been interested in the mysteries behind twins. After all, twin babies are very different.

There are two types of twins, identical and fraternal. Scientifically, the correct terms would be monozygotic and dizygotic twins. Identical twins are created when a two embryos form as the result of a cut zygote.

A woman is born with a specific number of egg cells. During puberty, the egg cells mature. During the first few days of a woman's menstruation cycle, twenty egg cells develop in the ovaries. The best time to get pregnant is 2-3 days before ovulation. Sperm can live in the female body for five days, while an egg can only last a day after ovulation.

Ovulation usually happens at the halfway point of the menstrual cycle. An egg cell passes through the uterine tube. If the egg cell collides with spermatozoa, the winning sperm cell will fertilize the egg cell, and a zygote will form.

The fertilized egg cell will travel up the uterine cavity where it will stick to one of the walls. Concurrently, the egg cell goes through the division process. These steps will result in the birth of monozygotic twins.

There is minimal scientific evidence that proves or disapproves the age of parents, genetics, or other environmental factors can influence whether or not a woman has twins. Identical twins share the same body features, hair color, skin color, and DNA. As a fetus, identical twins share the same bladder. Despite being conceived several minutes or hours after one another, whichever twin is born first is considered the oldest. Although identical twins look almost entirely similar, their fingerprint pattern is different. Everbody has a unique fingerprint pattern.

A single egg cell in a human will never be able to meet multiple spermatozoa. The zygote would never survive.

It is not uncommon for women to have two or more egg sells mature in their body during their menstrual cycle. It happens when several powerful follicles take charge. Ovulations can occur within several hours or a week of each other. For example, egg cells can be fertilized by separate sperm cells, either from one man or multiple men.

The likelihood of conceiving heterozygous twins increases with these factors:

  • Similar experience by another family member
  • A woman's age
  • Pregnancy from rape
  • Massive amounts of stress before pregnancy

More often than not, a multifetal pregnancy comes as a result of assisted stimulation of the ovaries. Only about one out of every 100 healthy women experience a natural multifetal pregnancy during their lifetime.

Twins can share thoughts without opening their mouth. They communicate on a spiritual level. Often, twins share cravings for the same food groups, live almost the same amount of time, and contract the same diseases.

However, keep in mind, that the surrounding environment can influence the behavior of each identical twin. If each identical twin is raised in a different environment, they could develop a different personality than their sibling. Have you ever thought that no human is genuinely the same?
