How Kate Middleton Could Celebrate Tenth Wedding Anniversary Milestone With Husband Prince William

On 29th April 2021, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will mark a significant milestone in their relationship — their tenth anniversary. The couple, who share kids George, 7, Charlotte, 5 and Louis, 2, have established a name for themselves in the royal family as well as in public, and remain highly esteemed in the public eye. With the recent passing of Prince Philip, Kate's grace and poise through the funeral, and her management of familial relationships brought on much praise. William and Kate are truly the embodiment of regality in many ways.

Most anniversaries are celebrated privately by the couple and news reports speculate that this milestone year may continue to be celebrated privately especially due to the continued lockdown in the UK.

The Cambridges had been staying at their Norfolk home, Anmer Hall, where they had been isolating along with their three children during the coronavirus lockdown, but may soon move back to Kensington Palace when the children start school again. This anniversary too, the duke and duchess may continue their tradition of a private celebration that is marked by a photo on social media streams.

Over the last few years, Kate and William have both had to work during many of their anniversaries, and while the ongoing pandemic may limit their ability to work this year, they may also make a public appearance on the day.

On April 21, 2021, Kate and William made their first public appearance since Philip's funeral. Many have also speculated that the couple may also take on more responsibilities from Queen Elizabeth, who has reportedly wanted to step back since the death of her beloved husband.

Since this year will mark a decade since Kate has been part of the royal family, OK! Magazine reports that the queen is likely to honor her granddaughter-in-law's milestone event. Speaking to the magazine, royal expert Duncan Larcombe said, "I think it's highly likely she'll be planning something to honour Kate's 10 years in the royal family. Something she can do to mark it."

Larcombe also explained that it looks like Kate has a "fantastic" relationship with the queen. "Kate strikes that balance between bowing to her as the head of the royal family in public but being able to check in with her as the great grandmother to her children. She has her own direct line to the queen." According to the expert, it was Kate who taught the queen how to use Zoom to make calls so that she could continue her meetings virtually.

About Kate and the queen, Larcombe adds, "They've stayed in touch over video calls. Kate will check in on the Queen and give her updates on the children. But also lean on her for advice."

Nothing has been confirmed yet about whether Elizabeth will want to continue to honor Kate amidst grieving her husband, but it is certainly clear that the queen is comfortable giving over many responsibilities to the duke and duchess. Most recently, the couple stepped out together to make their first public appearance since Philip's funeral after getting permission from the queen according to the Mirror. In a tribute to Philip's military service and patronage work, William and Kate visited the Air Cadets at 282 East Ham Squadron in London. The pair wore dark navy clothing as the family continues their period of mourning, which is set to end on Friday, April 23, 2021.

William and Kate shared their own experience of the visit and posted photos on their official Instagram account. The caption for the post began, "Paying tribute to The Duke of Edinburgh, who served as Air Commodore-in-Chief of the Air Training Corps for 63 years." Their post includes two photographs: one of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's most recent appearance, and the other a black and white photo of young Philip interacting with air cadets.

As to how Kate and William will choose to mark their special day, it is not yet clear. With the reopening of pubs across England and the easing of some restrictions on April 12, it is possible that the couple may step outside for a meal and drink. NPR reported that that the vaccination drive in England has been a bigger success than previously thought and Boris Johnson was one of the people to have a drink when pubs reopened.

According to Hitched UK, crystal or green tourmaline are the gemstones associated with the 10th anniversary, so jewelry may be on the cards this year as well.

Many of the couple's previous anniversaries have been spent working. On their ninth anniversary in 2020, Kate joined a roundtable discussion over video with charities that support new mothers and pregnant women. Kate was overdue on her pregnancy with Charlotte on their fourth anniversary. For their first anniversary, the couple spent a weekend in Suffolk, where they attended the wedding of one of Kate's friends. Hello! Magazine reports that Kate cooked William fish en papillote — fish wrapped in parchment paper — as an acknowledgment of the traditional first wedding anniversary gift of paper.
