House Cat Is Not Fazed By Bald Eagle
Jul 30, 2020 by apost team
Bald eagles are large, majestic birds that garner respect from everyone who is fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of them. As the national bird, most people only see them on a regular basis when they look at U.S. currency.
In Alaska, however, bald eagles are relatively common. However, even in Alaska, it is unusual to find them hanging out on a back porch enjoying a peaceful moment with a domesticated animal, like in this video that the cat owner posted to YouTube in April of 2017.
Friend or Prey?
Eagles are predatory carnivores, and they regularly hunt and eat small animals like fish and other small birds. And while it isn't exactly likely (eagles don't really like red meat), it's possible that an eagle could eat an outdoor cat, according to Audubon. When an Alaska woman came home to find the family cat hanging out on the back porch with two bald eagles, she immediately grabbed her camera to capture the incredible sight on video.
The eagles did not appear to be hungry or aggressive, and the cat did not appear to be fearful of the birds. The three animals sat a foot or two apart on a deck railing. They periodically looked at each other, and one of the eagles appeared to be trying to communicate with the cat for a minute or two.

Moving Freely
The video showed a frigid scene with snow on the ground and a gray, overcast sky. The cat remained hunched in a tight ball throughout most of the video, but it appears that this was because of the weather rather than because of a sense of fear for its safety.
At one point, the cat casually walked a few feet down the railing to take up residence in a new area. One of the birds followed the cat, squawked a bit and went back to its original location.
Throughout the entire video, the woman was talking to the cat and the bird, and all three species seemed like this was simply another day on the back porch. It is not clear why the birds and cat got along so well, but perhaps they were all trying to find a warm place to rest.
