June Edith "Mama June" Shannon and her TV-famous family came full circle before the public eye from a rift that lasted for years. June struggled with several vices, including addiction, misdemeanor and felony drug possession. Through their TV show, "Mama June: Family Crisis," the Shannon-Thompson Family has been trying to mend their fences and pick up the pieces of their broken relationship. A July 1, 2023 episode of the reality series delved into an emotional family therapy session where June sat with her daughters and hashed out some of their deepest desires.

June and her family became TV-famous over a decade ago in 2011 when her youngest daughter Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson, stole millions of hearts on TLC's "Toddlers & Tiaras." Due to Honey Boo Boo's sassy personality, the Shannon family was in the spotlight, and after their stint, TLC issued a spin-off for The family.

"Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" was launched in 2012, featuring little Alana, her mom, dad Mike "Sugar Bear" Thompson, and her sisters, Jessica "Chubbs" Shannon, Lauryn "Pumpkin" Shannon-Efrid and Anna "Chickadee" Shannon. The show followed their daily lives as a family, including clips from their extended family. The TLC-produced show was quite successful, as it became the production franchise's highest-rated reality show in its debut year.

"Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" lasted two years, and in 2014, the family moved on with another spin-off. Since debuting on TV, June's family has appeared in several spin-offs as fans keep following the controversial and blissful moments, as things quickly deteriorated regarding their family life after June started using hard substances.

Towards the late 2010s, June had several run-ins with the law alongside her then-lover Geno Doak. According to E! News, authorities apprehended the mom-of-four in 2019 for alleged possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. She and Doak also had domestic violence issues. June's relationship with her daughters became strained during her legal issues.

The star mom struggled to get back on her feet and ultimately enrolled at a rehab center for a chance at a better life. During this period, Alana ended up with her older sister, Efird, and the siblings tried navigating their lives despite the hurt from their mom's spiraling life. Nowadays, the former child star is past her formative years and is building a brand as a young adult.

On an episode of "Mama June: Road to Redemption," the youngster expressed her pain due to her mom's absence. Alana cried about how she longed for her mom, but she was not available. The reality star stated:

"It's just hard because you wasn't (sic) there for my first day of high school, and I think that's a pretty big thing. It was hard for me not to have my mom there, and I had to come home and tell Pumpkin what I was doing."

In May 2023, Alana's slew of fans joined her in celebrating her high school graduation. She was joined by her siblings and some family members who heartily honored her milestone. On Instagram, Efird gushed over her youngest sister while sharing snaps from the occasion. The TV star did not hold back on how proud she was of her sister's achievements.

Following her troubled years, it appeared June made a pact to fix the rift with her daughters. The estranged mom let fans in on where she and her daughters were in terms of their relationship, and she appeared to be putting in more effort than ever. In a clip showing one of their moments together, June and her daughters gathered in the kitchen of their home, laying it bare.

The group was joined by a therapist who delved into the various issues and helped them work through them. The video clip from Entertainment Tonight opened with Efird addressing her mom and stating that she often stepped away whenever they tried to fix their problems.

The therapist addressed Alana and June, and stated that the latter needed to show each of her kids that they were "the most important person in your life." He further discussed how the TV star needed to be more vocal about her love.

The professional asked Alana how she would have felt if her mom had shown support on the day she started high school. This got her emotional as she fought back tears before letting them roll down her face. After being prompted by the therapist, June held Alana in a mother-daughter embrace. In the confessional, Alana stated:

"This is the first time Mama's actually really gave me a hug in probably about five or six years. And it feels good to get an actual loving hug from your mama."

June struggled for years with her personal issues, and it created a chasm with her daughters. From the latest installment in their family's series, one can deduce that the Shannon family might finally be on the path to mending their relationship.
