Home Improvement Store Worker Finds Tiny Residents Moved Into Mulch Bag, Posts Sign Warning Others

Home Depot stores are known for the support that they give to employees and the ways that they care for community members. A group of workers hauling bags of mulch found a surprise in one of the bags that made them reach out for assistance from the community.

An employee who works at a Chicago Home Depot was getting mulch and other items ready in the garden center so that customers could work on their lawns at home. After opening a bag of mulch, the employee was greeted by a sweet baby.

There were three baby raccoons nestled together in the shape of a heart on top of the mulch. With tails close to the size of pipe cleaners and faces that could fit in the palm of your hand, the raccoons likely ended up in the mulch after their mother left them.

The worker saw that the bag had been chewed in several places. This was likely how the mother got into the bag to make the nest for her babies so that they would be warm and protected.

When the worker started digging deeper into the bag, the details of how much effort that the mother took to make sure her babies had a safe home was clear. She had built the sides of the bag up so that nothing would get to her babies. There has been no sign of the mother, but workers are trying to locate her with the assistance of the community.
