High Schoolers Have Crowd In Laughter With Creative Performance

It is difficult to forget MC Hammer's fun dance moves and his iconic “hammer time” pants from more than 30 years ago. Kids have a fun way of bringing back old trends and putting their creative spin on them. This is exactly what a group of kids from Beyer High School in Modesto, California did at a performance in 2010 — and they had the crowd enthralled.

When you think about MC Hammer’s puffy pants, the image of a big sack may not be far from your mind. The kids at Beyer High School took this a step further and completely enveloped themselves with colorful sacks from head to toe.

They were hot pink, neon green, sky blue, and sunny yellow bags that were stretchy enough to allow the dancers plenty of space to move freely. At the same time, the bags clung to their head, arms, and legs so that you could fully see their movements. You may wonder how the dancers avoided bumping into each other with bags over their heads.

The incredible choreography of the dance included everything from a conga line (that looked more like a colorful centipede) to the “hammer slide” dance that went well with their baggy costumes. In addition to dancing on their feet, the dancers sprawled across the floor while their feet danced around in sync in the air.

Altogether, the colorful sacks created the impression that abstract shapes were doing these popular and energetic dance moves, so the entire show was unique and magnetic.

Dance songs from the last century continue to be hot hits, and this performance at Beyer High School is proof that children and teens also love them.
