Happy Birthday To Susan Boyle - Singer Turns 61 And Says Age "Doesn’t Matter"

Apr 01, 2022 by apost team

Singer Susan Boyle has been in the spotlight ever since her star-making turn on "Britain's Got Talent" back in 2009. Her performance of the "Les Miserables" classic "I Dreamed a Dream" has been seen millions of times, while the scowling and then shocked face of judge Simon Cowell as he heard her sing for the first time has been etched into our collective memories.

Although her voice is incredibly powerful, some people might have thought that she wouldn't last longer than her 15 minutes of fame. But over one decade later, she's proved the naysayers wrong and shown herself to be a true superstar with lasting talent and popularity.

Since then she's released multiple albums that have topped the charts and sold millions of copies worldwide. But despite her successful career and fame, she continues to live in her native Scotland very humbly and unlike what one would expect of a musician who's worth millions of dollars. In fact, Boyle still lives in the same council house in Blackburn, West Lothian, Scotland, that she grew up in.

Last year was a particularly big year for Boyle as she turned 60. She honored the big moment by releasing a special video on her social channels, which celebrated her life and career up until that point.

Today, Boyle turns 61 and she's certainly showing no signs of slowing down. In recent years she's had a physical transformation, thanks to her newfound focus on health. She's also not afraid to speak out about her views on life and how she wants to be a role model to those who don't have a voice.

After she became a famous singer, health was rarely a focus for Boyle. After all, she was too busy recording music and touring the world. But in the last few years, Boyle revealed that her doctor noticed her larger weight and became concerned. Soon after Boyle was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. She even admitted to The Mirror that sweets were her weakness. She said:

"I need to stop eating sweeties and cakes. It’s the bane of my life."

With that knowledge in mind, she vowed to kick the sugary habit. The results weren't immediate, but they were impressive. Not only was she taking positive steps to impact her health after her diabetes diagnosis, but she lost weight in the process and drastically changed her appearance. This coincided with some of the ambitions she had before she turned 60, some of which were healthy lifestyle goals and changes. After her weight loss, Boyle opened up on the TV show Lorraine, where she said, as reported by Express

"I’m feeling a lot better now. I had moments where I needed help, and I reached out and I got the help I needed."

She showed off her new look in Jan. 2019 on "America's Got Talent: The Champions," a type of highlight show for stars from the series. Her performance there was just as incredible and loved as her initial run on "Britain's Got Talent," and she even earned a Golden Buzzer from judge Mel B. During her appearance, she spoke frankly to the audience and had some inspiring words for them:

"For those who maybe don’t have the confidence to do things, for those who don’t have a voice, the ones who people tend to ignore, I feel like I’m a champion for them. Coming in second doesn’t mean you lost, it’s an unfulfilled promise.”

Throughout her short but hugely successful career, Boyle has already proven many times that she's an incredibly inspiring woman. Not only through her achievements but also in the way in which she carries herself and goes through life. She's also certainly not afraid of using her influence to make a difference for others out there. In a 2019 interview with The Sunday Post, Boyle talked about her story and how she is often a book judged by its cover, however that hasn't held her back. She said:

"I’m not your typical glamorous person, but I get there. I like being a role model for those who don’t have a voice themselves, to give them a bit more confidence. They look at me and say, ‘Maybe I can do it as well, I’ll give it a go, too.’ I’ve been an example.

After she turned 60 last year, Boyle performed at the Tokyo Olympics and has even had a cameo in BBC's show "River City." While her passion for music hasn't stopped, Boyle has shown that she's not afraid of branching out and trying new things, no matter her age. In the same interview with The Sunday Post, she spoke about never giving up if you want something, regardless of your age. She said:

"If you want something bad enough, you keep going. It doesn’t matter your age or anything else. If you still have that fire in your belly, you need to let it out somehow."

At 61, Boyle has the world at her feet, and we can't wait to see what she gets up to next.
