Gwyneth Paltrow Has Mom Blythe Danner To Thank For Her Good Looks

You know how celebrities and their kids are always called “lookalikes,” or “carbon copies,” and so on? Gwyneth Paltrow and her mom are the real epitome of this. It is actually crazy how much Paltrow and her mom, Blythe Danner look alike to one another. Big eyes, chiseled jaws, and just all-around radiant faces.

Danner and Paltrow’s resemblance to one another is undeniable. In August, Daughter Apple interviewed Paltrow and Danner to promote Paltrow’s skincare company, Goop. Apple asked her mother and her grandmother questions like what advice they would give to their younger selves, what their skincare was like, etc. When asked when they felt their prettiest, Paltrow replied that she felt it was in her late 30s that she felt prettiest while mom Danner said she felt her prettiest when she was 50 years old.

"It's definitely a process and I think when you see your face start to change you don't necessarily feel your best self externally," Paltrow said. "But the irony is it's that time in your life when you actually really like yourself and love yourself. So you sort of internally feel really beautiful."

In an interview with Cinema Blend in December 2010, Danner talks about how she grew up around music, which led her to a career in theatre. “My family was very musical,” she shared. “My brother is an opera singer, my parents both sang. My earliest memories of Gwyneth first singing is in bed when we would make up songs. The most I could do was harmonize like a third above and at two years old, she’d be doing sixths. I said, ‘Where in the world did that come from?’ She’d just make up songs. And then she would sort of jazz scat to Sesame Street.

Actually, however, daughter Gwyneth Paltrow is without a doubt better known for her acting work than she is for her singing. For the movie, Duets, which Paltrow collaborated on with her dad according to Work and Money, Paltrow was heard singing many times, the most popular song she sang being Cruisin', the 1979 single originally written and performed by Smokey Robinson. Mom Danner says Paltrow has “always been musical.” She says that her husband, Paltrow’s dad Bruce Paltrow, had sent their daughter for piano lessons as a child, but she would just toss the music scores away as she could really only play the instrument by ear which, according to Danner, “nobody in the family had ever done.”

Blythe Katherine Danner was born on February 3rd, 1943, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, US. She is the daughter of a bank executive, Harry Earl, and Katherine Danner. Her first notable acting work was when she was 21 years old, she played Laura in The Glass Menagerie for the Theatre Company of Boston in 1965. Following that, she acted in close to 40 other plays and dozens of films and TV shows and has won a total of eight prestigious awards.

Also back in August, the 48-year-old Marvel actress took to Instagram to post a picture of herself, her daughter, Apple Martin (whose middle name is ‘Blythe’ by the way), and her mom, the 77-year-old Blythe Danner. The multi-generational photo featured the ladies arm in arm in pretty summer dresses outside in the backyard. The resemblance is not very apparent here, what with their 31-year age gap, but you would probably have to do a double-take seeing a young Danner standing beside Paltrow today.

Mom Danner has always been supportive and helped her daughter promote her Goop products. This summer Danner also posed with Paltrow wearing the Goop collection G. Label. Here Gwyneth Paltrow showed off her hips in a high-waist skirt with polka dots and a matching cropped top, while mother Blythe went for a fuchsia-colored robe with a turtle neck. Just like the photo showing the collection, the pieces were in fact designed to be passed on from generation to generation. According to Goop's Facebook page, Paltrow's G. Label is described as:  “It’s a story as old as time: A mother holds onto a special dress she hopes to pass down to her daughter; daughter pines for the day she can ‘borrow’ said dress from her mother’s closet.”
