‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Kate Walsh Opens Up About Meeting Her Farmer Fiancé On A Trip to Antarctica

Former "Grey's Anatomy" star Kate Walsh has been happily engaged and living with her fiancé, Andrew Nixon, in Perth, Australia, since meeting him, but they didn't have such a romantic start. The actress shared that she was on an Antarctica expedition in February 2020, when the farmer was also on the same trip with his friends.
Walsh, who mostly keeps her personal life private, accidentally revealed she got engaged to Nixon during an Instagram Live in October 2022 with actress Amy Brenneman, her co-star from "Private Practice." Nixon apparently walked into the frame, and Walsh casually blurted out that he was her fiancé. She was also wearing a massive diamond engagement ring during the live broadcast.
This would be the second engagement for the actress, who was previously married to studio executive Alex Young from 2007 to 2010. Walsh was already 40 years old when she tied the knot but confirmed in a 2015 radio interview that she could not have children due to early menopause. She always wanted to have children but waited to find someone to share the thrills of parenthood with.
Unfortunately, following their whirlwind romance, Young filed for divorce after 15 months of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences. However, it took a couple of years for the exes to finalize the process.
While dealing with the divorce, Walsh dated Neal Andrea, who worked in the technical side of production, but their relationship only lasted from 2009 to 2011.
Then, the actress began seeing producer Chris Chase and was with him until 2015. However, as with her previous relationships, Walsh hardly shared any details about her love life with the public. The one time the actress talked about her relationship with Chase was when they planned to do an animated series together prior to their breakup.

However, on Jan. 29, 2023, Walsh sat with Kelly Clarkson on her talk show and briefly shared how she met her future husband.
"We were on a ship to the Antarctic and that's how I met him."
Because of the climate crisis, Walsh revealed that she wanted to see the South Pole after having visited the North Pole (Artic) before. It was the trip that completely changed her life.
"It was an incredible trip and then bonus, you know, found the love of my life. Saw the penguins, check. Ice, check. Whales, check. Man, check.”
Walsh also visited Margaret River in Western Australia when the global lockdowns happened in March 2020, and that's when she decided to stay put Down Under by buying a property and then reconnecting with Nixon in Perth. The actress’ fiancé belongs to a prominent farming family in the region that produces wheat, barley and canola. They quietly got engaged in 2022.
Speaking with E! News, Walsh said that settling down in Perth was a "no-brainer" because life on the farm has been restful and comfortable compared to the bustle of Hollywood or New York. Walsh, however, admitted that she's still getting used to driving on the right side of the road or honking on the long way to the Nixon family farm because she might hit a kangaroo.
With travel now back to normal, Walsh brought Nixon back to Hollywood in December 2022 for the red carpet event of "Emily in Paris," one of her shows on Netflix. However, the happy couple said they'll make Australia their permanent home even if she has to go off to do her TV projects. The actress has not revealed the date of their wedding, and her fans will likely find out once it's happened if they keep tabs on her via Instagram.
