Grandma Stops Cars From Speeding By Using Her Hair Dryer As A Fake Radar

Nov 15, 2022 by apost team

Patti Baumgartner, a grandmother, took the safety of those in her area into her own hands when she realized they were ignoring speed warnings. On Aug. 17, 2019, she reported on Facebook that she was doing her part to help keep Finley Point, Montana, safe from people who drive too fast, and she warned them to all slow down when driving through the area. There have been pictures taken of Baumgartner sitting in her favorite lawn chair on the side of the road, equipped with a hairdryer and her morning cup of coffee.

Baumgartner is originally from South Finley Point, Montana, and she stated that by simply pointing her hairdryer towards traffic that passes by her, drivers are encouraged to slow down as they think she actually has a speed gun. She started doing this because many people in her area were complaining that they were unable to ride their bikes or walk because of the fast drivers.

After discussing options with others, they came up with the idea of her sitting in a chair by the road with a hairdryer to fool people into thinking that it was a speed radar. Once seeing her solution in action, her son found it to be extremely funny and decided to tweet the picture to Highway Patrol Trooper Noah Pesola, who responded back to him that he would like to meet Baumgartner and even give her a prize for her efforts.

According to WJHG, Pesola said:

"I thought it was hilarious. I think that we have a speed issue in Montana, and I thought it was a great creative idea for the public to try and combat that a little bit without making people too upset.”

It was the next day when he showed up. He provided Baumgartner with a campaign hat and sticker badge, making her an honorary trooper for all of the efforts that she put forth to help keep her grandchildren and neighborhood safe. Baumgartner had actually tried to hide from him, but it was no use with him having her picture. He didn't want to give her any trouble. He just wanted to give her the unofficial title "Honorary Montana Trooper" for her clever solution to help with a serious problem in her area.

They had been experiencing an issue with speeding in Montana, and Pesola enjoyed the way Baumgartner decided to help combat the issue as a civilian, without causing a lot of discontent or causing people to get upset. He didn't really know what else he could do for her, but he wanted to recognize her efforts in some way for helping to keep the area safe, even if by a small margin.

He gave her the trooper hat and badge to make her look a little more official as she sat there in her lawn chair. Apparently, it wasn't the idea that the granny had a speed gun that slowed people down. It was the idea of them trying to figure out what she was doing sitting beside the road with a hairdryer. However, regardless of the reason why they slowed down, her mission was accomplished either way.
