Graduating Students Surprise Their Former Kindergarten Teacher In Heartwarming Visit

Kindergarten is an important part of a person’s formative years as it can have a large influence on a child’s future based on what is taught to them. That’s why in some cases, people still remember what they did back in the day, especially when the person in charge of teaching them the basic forms of education is memorable.

This is what happened to a graduating class from Grant High School in Portland, Oregon, who made a big move for a woman who had been a big part of their childhood.

According to ABC 10, 20 high school students, who were bound to start a new chapter in their lives in 2023, surprised their kindergarten teacher, Emily Foster, in the same classroom where they started the early days of their education.

As seen on a video shared by KGW News, the students were seen wearing their togas in different colors, presumably because they were graduating from different schools.

It was the first time in 13 years that the teacher saw the former toddlers who once sat in the small chairs in her classroom.

Foster, who had been teaching for 42 years at the time of the surprise, was sitting down at her desk when the group of students entered the room one by one.

Despite her not seeing the kids for more than a decade, the teacher still remembered them.

Some of the graduating students even brought flowers and wrote heartwarming letters as a form of thank you to the person who became a big part of their lives.

The teacher shared her experience with ABC 10 as she told the outlet that her former students started walking in and “kind of shocked me and blew my mind.”

She also expressed her happiness after being surprised, “Just fun to see all of them just looking at them and thinking about when they were kids.”

One of the kids from Grant High School named Eli McConnachie said the surprise was “overwhelming,” but he was happy that his former teacher was excited to see all of them.

McConnachie later shared a few inspirational words with younger students as he told them to listen to their teachers because they know what’s best.

“They definitely have your best intentions at heart and they definitely care about you a lot,” he added.

Kindergarten may be a place where kids can play and learn the basics of education, but it is a crucial part of a children’s life.

Based on a study made by researchers from Pennsylvania State University and Duke University, as reported by Business Insider, there is a significant connection between how they interact with other kids during kindergarten and their success as grown-ups 20 years later.

The researchers were able to track over 700 children across the United States from 1991 until the later years of their lives.

Teachers were a key part of the study as they assessed how the students interacted with other peers socially.

Based on the results, those former kindergarteners who were socially competent were more likely to earn a college degree and have a job by the age of 25 compared to those who had limited social skills.
