Actress Raquel Welch got her start in the sixties and has been gracing the screens ever since then. She recently turned 79 years old on September 5th, but she doesn't look it at all because of her good looks and youthful energy. Here's a look back at her career.

Raquel starred in "One Million Years B.C." in 1966 which started her career thanks largely in part to the famous movie poster featuring her in a fur bikini. In her autobiography, she writes that "It seems like everything that's happened to me since has flowed from that moment, frozen in time," cited on Oprah.com

Raquel was born in Chicago to a Bolivian father and American mother and the family moved to California at an early age. Raquel got started with the performing arts as a ballet dancer, which she attributes to her healthy physique throughout the rest of her life.

In an interview on ITV, she revealed that she then pursued her dreams of acting and also married early. She went on to have two children, Damon and Tahnee, and subsequently three more husbands, the last one whom she divorced in 2003.

Her acting career included more than sixty credits as per IMDb, starting off in sci-fi, fantasy, and spy movies like "Fathom" and "The Three Musketeers." Later on she moved on to television, appearing in "CSI: Miami" and "Spin City."

Raquel was a sixties Hollywood icon and embraced the fashion of the day including gogo boots and piled-high hair. As recently as 2013 she was listed in Men's Health 100 Hottest Women Of All Time in the illustrious #2 spot only coming in after Jennifer Aniston.

These days she is working with the American Cancer Society, and creates wigs for Hair U Wear, reports the AARP magazine. She acts as a spokesperson for the organization and believes in the uplifting nature of the wigs.

"When women go to the mirror and see their hair falling out, it's like they see the cancer winning," she says. "If they don't have to see themselves that way, it's very helpful with morale."
