Goldie Hawn Introduces Fans To Her And Beau Kurt Russell's New Puppy Roy — Dog's Name Might Reference Overboard

Goldie Hawn is not only known for her love for animals but also her award-winning acting career. Her roles in numerous movies and significant awards can attest to that. However, her charming personality is likely the reason behind the millions of fans who keep up with her life on Instagram. On Jan. 8, 2021, the Hollywood actress showed off that golden personality, sharing pictures of her family's newest furry addition cuddling with her.

The 75-year-old icon introduced the newest addition to her blended family on Instagram. She has 2.8 million Instagram followers, but who’s counting? Hawn shared a photo in which she was holding an emphatically charming yellow Labrador puppy. She captioned her post, “Look what Santa rescued for me! Introducing Roy Hawn Russell.”

Little Roy is not the only dog Hawn and her longtime partner Kurt Russell own. The two Hollywood icons have long shared a passion for dogs between them and welcomed the rescue pup as the fifth member of their little pack. Hawn regularly shares pictures of her dogs on Instagram, allowing her fans to see her little (and not so little) furry companions. The couple has a bulldog that goes by the name of Mojo, an Alaskan malamute, a Jack Russell terrier, a cocker spaniel, a brown Labrador and the latest yellow Labrador. However, their fans suspect that they could have even more dogs!

The golden ager looked stunning in her blond hair and signature bangs as she wrapped her arms around the pooch. Her fans and followers did not take long to pick up on the fact that the name Roy could have been a reference to one of Hawn's successful and arguably most beloved comedy films, 1987’s "Overboard." Hawn played the role of wealthy heiress Joanna in the movie, while Russell played the part of the widowed carpenter and father-of-four Dean, whom Joanna ends up falling in love with after suffering from amnesia. Roy is one of the names Hawn's character guesses for one of Dean's sons.

Far from their last collaboration, Hawn and Russell have proceeded to work on several films together. The most recent of their escapades together is a sequel to "Christmas Chronicles," a popular holiday film from Netflix.

Hollywood golden couple Hawn and Russell are well known for their decades-long love story, having been together for 38 years. The two actors are no strangers to starring in movies together — after all, they began dating after filming "Swing Shift" together in 1983 and even appeared in more movies together afterward. A couple of years ago they teamed up again on camera to star in the movie "The Christmas Chronicles" and its sequel "The Christmas Chronicles 2," which was just released in November 2020. In the movies, they fittingly play the roles of Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus — what an iconic pairing to play the beloved characters! The couple has defied the odds that appear to be tilted against Hollywood partners. They have been together for a whopping 37 years.

They have had their share of difficult times, scandals, successes, failures and simply great moments. From the beginning and throughout all this, they admitted to Closer Weekly that "not breaking up is their mantra." They also seldom star in movies together. This isn't a relationship secret, though. According to the New York Times' interview with the pair, it is simply because they gravitate to different types of movies. "The Christmas Chronicles" marked the first time in over 30 years they had been in a film together. The reason? As Hawn puts it, "Material! Really, it’s about the material, and it just didn’t come along."

In many ways, they are also typical parents and grandparents. Hawn regularly posts videos and pictures of their kids and grandkids on social media. Such posts include a priceless Instagram video of Hawn dancing with her kids while washing dishes in the kitchen. Other posts are of son Oliver and granddaughter Rio making pizza in their Los Angeles home. He sports rolled-up sleeves, a gray hat and a lump of dough in his hands. She holds a rolling pin and in typically "Oh, Dad" fashion attempts to smile for the camera.

Hawn's caption tells you a lot about their family life. “Sometimes one picture says everything!! LOVE #happysunday.” The post garnered many likes and comments, with fans noting the resemblance between Rio and Hawn's actress daughter, Kate Hudson. Oliver Hudson and sister Kate Hudson, both Hollywood alums, have their own Instagram accounts as well. Many fans have said the Rio-Kate resemblance is simply uncanny.

Their seven grandchildren are Bingham Bellamy, Rani Rose and Ryder Robinson from daughter Kate Hudson, along with Bodhi Hudson, Rio Hudson and Wilder Hudson from their son Oliver. The family often jokes that Rio is Hawn's "Mini-Me," though all of the grandchildren seem to resemble Hawn in striking and various ways.

In a December 2020 interview with People Magazine, the couple opened up about the specific things they love about each other, and what drives them crazy. In the interview, which took place over Zoom, Russell began by saying, "I love the things that happen in our life and whatever part of it that I am, I’m happy for..." before Hawn interrupts him to say, "So far I'm not in this story." But Russell continues on:

"Hang on, it’s coming. Wait for it. The way she is when she’s happy is irresistible. I like that. That’s what I love most about Goldie."

We know what he means. Hawn has an infectious, bubbly personality that is simply a joy to watch in movies or interviews, so it's no surprise that it's Russell's favorite thing about his partner. Meanwhile, Hawn's favorite thing about Russell is quite simple. She says:

"Like it or not, he can’t lie. I mean, he’s lied a little. But the truth of the matter is that what you see is what you get. He doesn’t fake. He’s not a womanizer, where he’s [trying to be] cool. I like the fact that he’s not pretending to be somebody else."

In terms of how they've managed to create such a warm and loving family atmosphere, Russell and Hawn have been able to do so since spending quality time together is one of their priorities in life. "We always trim the tree on Christmas Eve and we have a big meal,” Russell told Closer Weekly. "The grandkids put their pajamas on and hang up their stockings. We get the fire going and when it gets dark we always choose someone to read ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.'"

It is also important for Hawn to celebrate big events with her grandchildren throughout the year, such as Rio's preschool graduation and charity functions for the Goldie Hawn Foundation. Photos of such events on her social media show how close the family truly feels with one another.
