Goldie And Kurt Bring Back Memories Of 'Overboard' In France

In an industry where real-life romances don't last very long, Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn have been together since 1983 — that’s almost four decades — and are an inspiration.
Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn initially met in 1966 while filming together but reconnected on the set of their film “Swing Shift” and have been inseparable ever since, even going on to star in further movies together after becoming romantically involved. The couple has even joined each other on-screen again in the last few years in “The Christmas Chronicles” movies, where, rather fittingly, they play Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus. The first movie was released in 2018, while the sequel came out in November 2020. We couldn't think of a better pair to play the iconic roles than Hollywood's golden couple: Hawn and Russell.
And if dispatches from their current vacation in Europe are any indication, it seems like the dynamic duo’s relationship is still going strong. In a July 7 story, The Daily Mail reported that Hawn and her daughter, Kate Hudson, were spotted vacationing in Greece this summer. After Greece, Hawn and Russell were seen on a yacht off the coast of southern France. The vacation is especially fitting for the couple, given that they both starred in “Overboard,” an American romantic comedy in which two lovers fall in love on a yacht. The Mail also reported that the two Hollywood sweethearts were seen exchanging a kiss on the boat. That’s pretty dreamy, especially for a relationship that’s been going on for nearly 40 years.
Russell wore a pair of striped maroon board shorts and a salmon shirt while Hawn sported a black one-piece bathing suit, according to The Mail. Apart from tanning on deck, Russell was also spotted swimming in the water during their romantic European getaway. Their ocean trip ended with a romantic walk on the beach and drinks with friends.
The entire trip conjures up memories of the classic 1987 romantic comedy "Overboard," in which wealthy Joanna (Goldie) falls off her yacht and suffers from a case of amnesia. Grant, Joanna's husband, takes advantage of the accident to get rid of his wife. Then Dean (Kurt) enters the scene, a working-class father of four. Dean tells an amnesia-stricken Joanna that he's her husband in an effort to get back at her after she was rude to him. But, as romantic comedies go, the two end up slowly falling in love. The movie is all the more special given that Kurt and Goldie were already together when they filmed the romantic flick.
Kurt and Goldie have been together since 1983. They first met in 1966 while filming together it wasn’t until “Swing Shift” that they were dating. And since then, they have been inseparable, especially by Hollywood standards.
However, one interesting thing about their relationship is that the couple never chose to get married. Hawn openly discussed the topic in a 2007 interview with Woman's Day magazine. Asked why they won't head down the aisle, Hawn responded:
"Because we have done just perfectly without marrying. I already feel devoted and isn't that what marriage is supposed to do? So as long as my emotional state is in a state of devotion, honesty, caring and loving, then we're fine."

Considering theirs is one of Hollywood's longest-lasting relationships, they've clearly proven their point that marriage is unnecessary as long as there is love, respect and mutual compassion towards one another. Kurt even weighed in on the topic in an interview with the Daily Mail in 2018, saying:
"Everyone has their marker on what is really important and where you draw the line. For Goldie and me, that core value was this: the kids come first. That big movie I turned down came at an age when they really needed one of us around."
But you might be tempted to ask: how do they manage to keep the spark alive after all these years? Part of the answer lies in the simple fact that Hawn and Russell still find things that they love about one another. In a 2020 interview with People, Russell described Hawn as “irresistible” when she’s happy.
“I like that. That’s what I love most about Goldie,” Russell shared.
As for Hawn’s favorite things about partner Russell, she said he’s attracted to the “child in him.”
“He loves to play. He laughs big," Hawn added in the interview with People. "He’s really, really smart. I like that when he puts his mind to something, it can be a little obsessive-compulsive, but at the same time, he gets it right. I think he’s one of the great actors of all time. And he’s a fantastic father.”
The fact that these thoughts come to the couple with ease just goes to show how much these two are still in love. And given what they admire in one another, it makes sense!
