Georgia Man Receives His Last Paycheck In Form Of Pile Of Oily Pennies

Leaving a job can be pretty emotional. Whether you left because you found a better opportunity or you just needed to do something different, leaving a job can be full of obstacles but also lead to many new avenues in your life. For one man in Georgia, he found that leaving his job meant having to deal with a few complications regarding his final paycheck.

A man in Georgia received his final paycheck in a pretty unusual way. Andreas Flaten had quit his job at Walker Luxury Autoworks in Peachtree City back in November 2020, but it took quite a bit of time for his final paycheck to arrive. He even had to reach out to Georgia’s Department of Labor to complain about the entire ordeal. When the money finally came, it was not at all what Flaten or his girlfriend, Olivia Oxley, expected.

Upon coming home on March 13, 2021, Oxley was met with a huge pile of oily pennies that added up to the amount that Flaten’s final paycheck was. Rather than send a check, Flaten’s previous employer had opted to send over a giant pile of pennies drenched in oil, adding up to $915.

Shocked at the entire situation, Oxley uploaded a video of the astonishing pile of oily pennies to her Instagram account and gained plenty of traction with the post. Since then, Flaten’s previous employer has also given his side of the story. Even though Flaten had received his last paycheck, getting in the form of a huge pile of pennies drenched in oil was by no means the most conventional or convenient way of getting paid.

Oxley uploaded a video to her Instagram account showing the strange form of payment. “My boyfriends last paycheck delivered at the end of the driveway in pennies… at 8 pm on a Friday. His last day was in November,” she wrote in the video’s caption. Oxley said that her boyfriend had handed in a written resignation letter when he quit and handed in his washed uniforms in a box. While he had at first given his employer his two weeks notice, Flaten ended up leaving after only five days, according to Oxley’s Instagram post.

Speaking with PEOPLE in March 2021, Oxley explained that she believed Miles Walker, Flaten’s former boss, was behind the incident as Flaten had complained about the delay in receiving his money. “At first, we were super ticked because we were trying to leave the house to go get my boyfriend some medicine since he had a stomach bug all day and we had to shovel pennies out of the driveway before we could go anywhere,” she explained.

Oxley continued, “However, after the first shovel full, all we could do was laugh because this poor miserable man took so much time to be vindictive and cruel. We absolutely refused to let him ruin a single moment of ours.” Flaten’s previous employer has since given his side. “He got paid, that’s all that matters,” Walker told WGCL, but admitted he couldn’t “really remember” if he had dumped the coins in the man’s driveway. WGCL reported that former employees of Walker’s claimed that they left due to a toxic work environment that he created.

“Be kind to people,” Oxley said. “Your vengeance could come back at you so hard like it did to this man.”
