Bubba went to college at Texas A&M, where he became interested in the rodeo. This was when he decided that he'd compete in rodeo professionally. Soon after graduation, he became a roper for the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. Roping cattle is not just a passion for Bubba but is also a passion of his father. George Strait Senior says that there is nothing more satisfying than seeing his son compete in roping except for being able to watch him win a contest. George Strait Senior would go on to give a glowing review of his son's accomplishments in The Team Roping Journal. The father and son duo has been fortunate enough to win multiple buckles together.

However, roping cattle and rodeo aren't the only passions that the two men share. Bubba, along with his father, are both talented songwriters and musicians. Indeed, George Strait's 2009 album, Twang includes multiple songs that Bubba co-wrote with his father, including Living for the Night, Out of Sight, Out of Mind, and He's Got That Something Special.
At present, George Strait Junior and his wife of ten years, Tamara Strait, hang their hats in Texas. They have two children, George Harvey Strait III, who primarily goes by "Harvey" and Jilliann Louise Strait. Tamara also dedicated herself to being a successful realtor with multiple accolades under her belt.
Tamara said on social media that Bubba is the "calm to her crazy," and that he is able to sustain not only high levels of stress but that she is more than happy to "reward" him for all of his hard work.
