George Clooney’s Kids Were Confused After Visiting Him On Set The Day He Had To Kiss Longtime Pal Julia Roberts

While Julia Roberts and George Clooney are Hollywood superstars in their own right, their close-knit friendship has elevated their popularity to stratospheric levels. After appearing in the hit heist film “Ocean’s Eleven,” their camaraderie has never failed to light up any red carpet or event they have graced together.

Both actors began their careers in the 1980s, although Roberts was the first to hit the big time with her iconic roles in classics like “Mystic Pizza,” “Steel Magnolias” and, particularly, “Pretty Woman.” After shining in her role as a working girl with a heart of gold who falls for Richard Gere’s affluent businessman, Roberts would go on to seal her status as America’s sweetheart in romantic comedies like “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” “Notting Hill” and “Runaway Bride.” But it was her role as the sharp, sassy and street-smart legal assistant in “Erin Brockovich” that earned her an Academy Award and guaranteed her legacy would flourish among cinema’s greatest for many years to come.

One of Hollywood's biggest heartthrobs, George gained widespread popularity with his role as Dr. Doug Ross on “ER” from 1994 to 1999 before going on to land several leading roles in films. Some of his most popular works include “From Dusk Till Dawn,” “One Fine Day,” “Batman & Robin,” “The Peacemaker,” “Out Of Sight,” “Three Kings” and “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” He has also received many accolades over the years, including the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018.

Together, George and Roberts have starred in six movies, with the latest being the 2022 rom-com “Ticket to Paradise.” In an Oct. 10, 2022, chat with Hoda Kotb, the besties recalled the awkwardness of the moment they had to share a kiss and the confusion on the faces of George’s children.

Roberts and George have nurtured their friendship without any romantic connection for over two decades. The best friends each have partners and have also been married twice.

Before tying the marital bowtie for the second time, George was one of the most eligible bachelors in Hollywood. But ever since he married lawyer Amal Clooney in 2014, showbiz’s most eligible bachelor has been firmly off the market. The actor was married once during the start of his career but was single for a good portion of his time in the spotlight. However, that all changed when he met Amal.

The pair live a busy life together as they are both very successful in their respective industries. Swapping a glamorous lifestyle for family time, the couple became parents in June 2017 to a set of twins named Alexander and Ella and are taking things a bit slower now. Transitioning into parenthood was also a dramatic change for George, who found himself taking on the most important role of his life — fatherhood.

Like George, Roberts was also married at the start of her career. The actress eventually met her second husband, Daniel Moder, on the set of the dark comedy “The Mexican” in 2000. At the time of their meeting, Roberts was in a relationship, and Moder was married. But the two got together after they were estranged from their partners, eventually getting married in 2002. Roberts and Moder expanded their family two years after they got married with the birth of their fraternal twin children. Three years after the couple welcomed the twins, Roberts gave birth to a son in 2007.

George and Roberts starred as David and Georgia in the 2022 rom-com “Ticket to Paradise.” In the movie, the longtime friends were warring exes who teamed up to sabotage their daughter's upcoming wedding in Bali. In the interview with Kotb, the actors recalled a kissing scene shot on the first day of filming, the same day George’s wife Amal and their twin children, Alexander and Ella, came to visit their dad on set.

"That was the first day they came to visit. It's like 'papa ah, Auntie Juju,'" Roberts shared.

Roberts, obviously not wanting the kids to witness the scene, had them out of the set before it happened.

"It's like get 'em out! Get 'em out," Roberts told Kotb. "It's really bad," George said, trying to give context to the situation and also clarifying that the kids did not witness the kissing scene.

George also joked about how the kids would have questioned him about the kissing if they had seen it. He said:

"What are you doing papa? What is that?"

The kids’ absence from the set didn’t stop the longtime friends from struggling with the kissing scene. Roberts revealed it was somewhat ridiculous, likening it to best friends kissing. She also revealed that they had to do multiple takes as both of them were laughing through it.

“It's kind of ridiculous,” she said. “It is like kissing your best friend.” Roberts added, "It took 79 takes of us laughing and then the one take of us kissing."

George acted offended in response to Roberts’ analysis of the kissing scene.

“Well thanks for that. You know that I'm a two-time Sexiest Man Alive,” he boasted.

What do you think of the longtime friends sharing a kiss in a rom-com movie? Do you think it was necessary to make sure George’s kids didn’t witness the scene?
