George Clooney is one of Hollywood's biggest heartthrobs. He has been in the entertainment industry for several years now and has continued to capture the hearts of people from all over the world with his amazing good looks and charming personality. Early Days

Clooney was born on May 6, 1961, in Lexington, Kentucky. He later moved to Augusta and did well in high school academically as well as with extracurricular activities. He played sports and even tried out for a professional baseball team but never made it. It seemed like higher education wasn't necessarily the right path for Clooney, as he attended two schools for a couple of years but never ended up graduating. Instead, he picked up odd jobs here and there to make ends meet.

"I was walking through the streets of New York half way through the first season of 'ER,' and I'd been on a lot of TV shows so people would kind of recognize me, 'It's that guy from that thing,' and I remember walking down the streets in Manhattan and them going, 'Hey George,' and they knew your name as opposed to your character. I remember that was a moment where I thought, 'Things have changed.'"

Success On Television

The actor had his breakthrough when he played Dr. Doug Ross in the medical drama "ER" from 1994 to 1999. Other notable stars to come from the series include Anthony Edwards, Noah Wyle and Julianna Marguiles. Clooney found great fame and recognition from his role, and even though he left the show in 1999, he made a cameo during a later season and even returned for a guest-starring role in the show's final season. Clooney's time in the medical drama also earned him plenty of praise and accolades as he received several award nominations during this time.

After leaving "ER," Clooney went on to find commercial success in films and began landing leading roles and truly making a name for himself in the entertainment industry. He had some previous experience with film while he was still working on the medical drama, as he was cast in the 1997 thriller "The Peacemaker" with Nicole Kidman. He also went on to play Batman in "Batman & Robin" and played opposite Jennifer Lopez in "Out of Sight." The latter was directed by Steven Soderberg and based on the book by Elmore Leonard.

However, as Clooney left television behind for a couple of years, he directed his focus toward working more in movies. He also was going through a turning point in his career. According to Looper, "Batman & Robin" did well at the box office but was viewed as a critical failure. It seemed like there was no way for Clooney to bounce back, especially as someone still so new in the industry. 

Breakthrough In Film

However, Clooney's next role with Lopez in the film "Out of Sight" is what helped show just how much talent and promise the actor truly had. He explained:

"Steven was coming off a couple of flops and I was coming off 'Batman & Robin' and we both needed a success. Our backs were against the wall, in a way. I was still doing 'ER' at the time and there were always these conversations about whether you can go from television to film. It was a big deal — and I was losing that argument."

Fortunately, the risk paid off, and Clooney continued to find more success in the upcoming years. One of his biggest accomplishments during this point in his career was starring in the heist comedy "Ocean's Eleven," where he played the character of Danny Ocean. The 1960s version of the film had the Rat Pack as the cast, with Frank Sinatra playing the leading role. Clooney later appeared in two sequels.

Clooney began to really immerse himself in the entertainment world and co-founded a production company called Section Eight Productions in 2001. The following year, he made his directorial debut with the film "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind." He also starred in the film alongside Julia Roberts and Drew Barrymore. Speaking with People in January 2022, Clooney spoke about how excited he was for "Ticket to Paradise," and it is "something special" and "sort of an old-fashioned film." He particularly was excited about getting to work with Roberts. 

"I haven't done a romantic comedy really since 'One Fine Day,' and more than that," Clooney said. "I've done some sort of snarky ones, you know, and in this one Julia and I just get to be mean to each other in the funniest way." The actor also called it "lucky" that he and Roberts were both cast to play opposite one another.

In January 2022, Clooney also spoke with Entertainment Weekly about his current project called "The Tender Bar." It is a drama starring Ben Affleck, Lily Rabe and Tye Sheridan. Clooney talked about what it was like working with established stars, as well as some up-and-comers, including Daniel Raniere. When asked if kids get their own type of directing while on set, Clooney replied:

"No, you treat them like tiny adults. Remember, I played (a) pediatrician on 'ER,' so I worked with kid actors every single day for five years, and a different one a day. They're so much smarter than we give them credit for, they know exactly what's going on."

Business Endeavors

While Clooney was once a struggling actor, it's safe to say that he's a world-renowned star now. Clooney's life changed when he met the woman he now calls his wife: Amal. "I felt that I met someone who I would absolutely trade my life for, you know," Clooney said, according to Town & Country. "I met someone that her life meant more to me than my life and I never had that experience before."

The pair now share a home together in Lake Como in Italy, which is the same area where the couple actually met. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Amal was passing through on her way to Cannes in July 2013 when she and Clooney first met. 

"I thought she was beautiful, and I thought she was funny and obviously smart," Clooney said. He explained how they began emailing and talking to each other about their lives and eventually realized that they were building a strong connection.

The couple went on their first date in October 2013 at the historic Abbey Road Studios in London. It wasn't long before their relationship gained widespread media coverage, but Clooney commended Amal for how well she handled the sudden attention. Clooney proposed in April 2014, and he and Amal tied the knot in September that same year.

Their Beautiful Family

According to Town & Country, Amal is a lawyer at Britain's Doughty Street Chambers and has worked on a number of human rights cases and international law cases. She has also given several speeches at the United Nations and is a very involved philanthropist. Amal is also an extremely beautiful woman.

Speaking about his wife, Clooney said, "She is sort of this remarkable human being and now mother which is something, I suppose, you should assume she would be wonderful at as well. But, when you see it in person, it makes you feel incredibly proud and also incredibly small."

Now, Clooney and his wife have been married for over seven years and have continued to grow together as partners and as happy parents to twins Alexander and Ella, whom they welcomed back in June 2017.
