George Clooney Was On 'The Golden Girls' Before He Became Famous

George Clooney is a household name now, but back in the day, he had to audition for the little guest spots on TV shows just like anybody else trying to break into the game — it seems everyone has to start somewhere and that includes mega-famous celebrities. It’s really fun to look back at the roles they have taken, like George’s in a 1987 episode of “The Golden Girls.”

George played a police officer early on in the show’s run, on episode 24, season 2 entitled “To Catch a Neighbor.” He must have been about 26 in this episode, where he played detective Bobby Hopkins trying to catch jewel thieves who happen to live next door the girls. They agree to host the detective and just like any other episode of the show, there were plenty of hijinks.

The show starred Betty White, Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan, and Estelle Getty as the four “Golden Girls” who live together in a Florida home. They navigate friendships and relationships together with plenty of laughs in between.

It wasn’t George’s only TV guest appearance, and he kicked off his career as “Young Man Carrying Barrel” in the 1978 mini-series “Centennial.” His IMDb says he also made it on the iconic 80s and 90s shows “The Facts of Life,” “Murder, She Wrote,” “Roseanne,” and “Murphy Brown“.

After putting in all of that time audiences now know him for starring in “ER,” “Ocean’s Eleven,” “Gravity,” and his latest project, the “Catch-22” TV series. Watch the actor in his humble beginnings on “The Golden Girls” below:
