If you are a dog-lover, you might be shocked to know that canines are not considered "man's best friend" all over the world. In fact, some countries actually slaughter dogs and eat them! Yes, you read that right! Some countries in Southeast Asia routinely use dog meat in their food. As incredulous as it sounds, going to the slaughterhouse is a reality for many stray dogs in these countries. However, there is some hope for these poor souls.

The Sound of Animals is an organization dedicated to saving dogs in Southeast Asia from the meat industry. One of the good people working for this organization is Michael Chour. Upon inspection of a meat farm in Chomkachek, Cambodia, he and some others found a slaughterhouse with caged dogs. In a race against time, they began initiating rescue efforts.
Someone Special
Though Chour has been through this before, this time was different. He felt a connection with one of the smaller dogs in the cage named Sweety. He knew that if his group could not negotiate a rescue, she would be dead within days.
The Sound of Animals group got to work and was able to negotiate the release of 17 of these dogs. Though a significant number, sadly, this didn't account for each dog at the slaughterhouse. However, Sweety was lucky enough to be one of the saved. Michael told Animal Channel:
“All dogs have the right to a life of happiness, but some of them touch my heart more than others. She is one of them.”
Temporary Shelter
These fortunate dogs were sent to a temporary shelter in O Smach, Cambodia, where they were given medical assessments and treatments, if necessary. Then, they would be sent to the main shelter in Ban Kruat District, Thailand, where forever homes would be sought for them.
Chour, having found himself wondering how Sweety was doing, paid her a visit at the shelter. However, his heart sank when he saw her face. She was obviously terrified and had no idea what was happening to her. He went to her cage and urged her out of it. Get your tissues ready, because what happens next is truly heartwarming.
Doggie Love
It was as if Sweety instinctually knew Chour was one of the men who arranged her rescue from the slaughterhouse. She jumped into his arms for a hug and would not let go. Chour knew right then that he had a strong connection with Sweety.
If you don't believe us, check out this video of Chour and Sweety. It starts after Sweety has settled herself into Chour's arms. You can almost feel the dog pleading with him not to let her go. Not only does Chour not let go, but he makes her a solid promise.
I Will Take Care of You
As he cradles the dog in his arms, he arranges for food and medicine to be brought to her. He gently kisses her snout and nuzzles her head. Chour is amazed, as are we, that Sweety simply won't let go of him. It is at this moment that it's decided that Sweety will become Chour's dog. He soothes her by telling her nobody is going to kill her and that he will take care of her. Chour decides to adopt Sweety himself.
Lucky for Sweety! But unfortunately, not all dogs in Sweety's situation are fortunate enough to be rescued. It is very fortunate that there are people like Chour and the staff of The Sound Of Animals organization that do their best to help such dogs in need. However, they can only help to a limited extent without the right support. If you want to help, check out the website of the organization to find out how to do it.
