One easy way to organize your holiday shopping needs is to obtain a wish list for all the people for whom you will be purchasing gifts. This method is especially useful when purchasing gifts for individuals with whom you are not very familiar. Otherwise, you risk seeing the gift you purchased becoming part of the gift exchange inventory.

Many times lists will contain big-ticket items the wisher expects to only be fulfilled by a parent or spouse. Another common item on many wish lists is a puppy.

Consider this point when purchasing Christmas gifts. Not all individuals that receive a puppy for Christmas is unprepared for the responsibilities that come with finding and properly raising a puppy.

The increased demand for puppies during the holiday season is heavily anticipated by professional and amateur dog breeders alike. This rush to create the product to satisfy demand can sometimes result in dogs that are poorly bred.

While this may or may not be the situation with the puppy in this story, the evidence seems to point to this possibility. The dog appears to be either an Australian Shepherd or Border Collie. She is also a double merle.

It is quite likely you have seen a dog with a merle coat pattern. This pattern is when a swirl of colors are mixed together. Great Danes, Collies, as well as other breeds have the merle pattern. The merle coat pattern is striking to behold.

However, when two dogs possessing a merle coat pattern breed, it is possible they will give birth to puppies identified as double merle. These dogs are usually born with mostly white coats and are most often blind, deaf, or both.

A double merle pup can be produced when one of the parents is not a merle. However, pairing merles together are what most often gives this result. Double merles can live as full a life as other dogs but will need extra patience and understanding from their owners. They are also more difficult to sell than other puppies.

Three friends, Casey Hardin, Stanley Hisel, and Darren Jackson, were walking together alongside a frozen creek when they discovered something disturbing. They could see the head of a puppy sticking out from a bag that was thrown into the creek.

To their surprise, the dog inside the bag was still alive. It was later determined by a local animal shelter the female dog had first been placed inside a single trash bag. Then, the first bag was placed inside a second bag along with a number of large rocks. The bags were then dumped into the creek.

Casey Hardin walked into the sludge of water to rescue the puppy. He then took her to the shelter where she was made dry and warm before being fed. The puppy was given the name Chapel. The name identified the street where she was found.

The shelter alerted the public via social media of the situation as soon as they received the call from Casey. They also provided the public with updates of the situation. One update posted not long after Casey and Chapel arrived informed the public that Chapel had been fed and was taking a nap.

The public was also assured that Chapel would make a full recovery.

On December 12, the shelter informed the public that Chapel would be leaving for a long-term facility. The shelter thanked everyone on social media for their positive comments. They also expressed hope the person responsible for the horrible act committed against Chapel would be found.

Not all dogs in Chapel's situation is so fortunate. You can contribute to stopping these horrors by not purchasing dogs during the Christmas season. There are dogs available for adoption to satisfy this need. And what better gesture of Christmas spirit than to give a home to a dog in need of one.

What a heartbreaking story, fortunately, it has a happy end! It is important to raise awareness to the plight of some puppies like Chapel, especially around Christmas time. Make sure to show this article to your friends and family and make everyone aware of the poor situation a lot of puppies find themselves after the holidays. Spread the love!
