You’re craving a steak. So, you take it out of the freezer, allow it to thaw for hours, and finally get on with the fine art of cooking it, right?

Turns out, you and the multitude of others who do it this way have been doing it all wrong. Who knew?

The Fine Art Of Steak

From seasoning to temperature, steak is something that most people like prepared a certain way. You can take a chicken breast or pork chop out and over cook it a little and it’s no big deal. After all, for safety, each must be cooked at least to a certain temperature anyway. Unless burnt, cook time doesn’t affect the taste much. Steak, however, is a different beast.

We can’t do much about individual preferences on seasonings, cuts, and temperature, but you’d be surprised at how one simple step can take the guess work out of the art of actually cooking your steak in general.

Your freezer is an imperative tool in food preservation. It keeps foods fresh much longer than simple refrigeration. And, few of us have time to go to the market every single day for our food needs.

That said, most of us take the food out of the freezer to thaw before we cook it. We’ve got preserving solved, but could there be a solution to the hours of wait it takes to thaw? Turns out there is, just simply cook it from frozen!

Forgot to thaw? No problemo!

American Test Kitchen folks froze eight cuts of steak. They thawed four and left four frozen before expertly cooking each. They then compared the two must-haves T’s of all steaks - texture and taste. So, which won?

Well - According to them, cooking a steak straight from frozen might not necessarily beat the flavor of a fresh cut (I mean, be realistic guys, nothing really can!) but it can still be delicious, so long as you follow some simple guidelines of theirs.

While cooking the ‘perfect’ steak will always be a matter of opinion and the various taste buds involved, at least this information saves you a few hours of thaw time and puts a notch on your art belt when it comes to cooking steak.
