It is no wonder that the song “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” has stood the test of time. This classic song features amazing vocals that nearly everyone recognizes.
The song first hit the charts in 1961 through a performance by The Tokens. However, upon further research, you will learn that a strikingly similar rendition of the song was recorded in 1939 by a man from South Africa named Solomon Linda and the group The Evening Birds. Even though the original recording is essentially the same, Solomon and his band have only been paid a small fraction of the royalties from the song.

As the lead singer of The Tokens, the voice of Jay Siegel has been heard by millions. This video clip shows him in his element, singing the famous song that everyone loves so much. Siegel even turns his standard microphone into a mini-flute as he pretends he is playing the instrument. It is clear that he is having a good time playing around with the song.
While Siegel's voice is truly magnificent, it is Kelly De Fade who steals the show of this performance. At about the half-way point of the song, De Fade shows her immense vocal range as she hits all of the high notes with ease. The rest of the band is just as remarkable to watch. Be sure to check out the man in the top hat and the silver blazer.
This classic song deserves to be revisited over and over again. After you have watched this performance, feel free to spread the fun to everyone else that you know.
