Father-Daughter Duo Taking Internet By Storm With Their Beautiful Natural Hair Set World Record For Tallest Hair

A gorgeous father and daughter duo used their looks to spread awareness about how powerful it can be to fully embrace your natural beauty. Benny Harlem and his daughter Jaxyn decided to grow out their hair in order to embrace their full identities. The duo has since made a name for themselves in the modeling community, and have also even broken a world record. The pair made the choice to go back to their natural roots, literally, by growing out their hair and embracing their ancestry. 

The Cut is a section of New York Magazine that talks about the latest fashion trends, as well as bringing awareness about social issues. During an interview with The Cut from March 2018, Harlem talked about what inspired him and his daughter to work on growing their hair out and how they got it so long. Harlem had some tragedy to overcome in his childhood, which led him to wanting to heal and help others as well.

His father had left shortly after he was born. When he was nine-years-old, Harlem met his estranged father, but his father didn’t seem to recognize him. Not having that parental figure in his life, Harlem was dealt with an overwhelming amount of emotions. “That was the beginning of heartbreak for me,” he said. He struggled with his pain for a long time, before finally turning to the church when he was 18-years-old. He started going to service every Friday and Saturday. The church was sponsoring a trip to Africa, and Harlem jumped at the chance to go.

Harlem’s Journey To Self-Acceptance

“I learned so much about myself, my family and ancestry, and it changed my life forever,” he said about the trip. Following the excursion, Harlem felt inspired to reconnect with his roots. He began growing his hair out in 2005. He took the next step by encouraging others to join him. “I want to help lost men into becoming real men,” he explained.

Harlem put together a photoshoot called “Unchained” for the Black community to embrace their natural curls and surrounding beauty. When talking about the photoshoot, Harlem described it as “a very passionate project for me that has inspired me to show my people and all people how to overcome and become.”

Finding a sense of identity is important for anyone, especially for Harlem. “I’m not a new person because of my hair,” he explained. “I’m a new person because of my belief in myself.” It’s not just himself that Harlem has to believe in and be there for. He explained how he wanted to be able to provide for the women in his life, especially his daughter. She joined him with her own effort of growing out and taking care of her gorgeous hair.

Although the family fully embraces their natural beauty, there is nothing wrong with learning how to enhance your features and find products that can take care of what you were already born with. This includes beauty products and plenty of tender love and care. “The only thing that’s natural about this is that our hair will grow with a curl,” Harlem explained about how he had to work to get his hair as long as it is.

Harlem has a personal online shop, Lion Chakra, with the company’s location being in Burbank, California. The website has plenty of beauty products like soap, perfumes and garments. It also, of course, has hair growth products like the ones Harlem used to achieve his record-breaking hairdo.

Just how long is his hair? The long years of growing it out and nurturing it paid off, as Harlem’s hair reached 20.5 inches in 2018. According to The Cut, he became a title holder of a “Guiness World Record” for “tallest high top fade.” Harlem expressed how it’s important to take care of your hair in order to let it reach its full potential. “You got to know exactly who you are and walk in your natural design,” he said about the process.

Harlem’s verified Instagram account has skyrocketed to reach over 520 thousand followers. It includes a plethora of photos of him and his daughter looking fabulous and fashionable, showing off their incredible hair. They have also uploaded videos showing how they take care of their hair so it can look as stunning as it does. Harlem has fully embraced his life as an influencer by showcasing his achievements in his bio. He wrote, “Guinness World Record Title Holder” as well as “Hair Growth Specialist.” 

It’s clear Harlem is proud of his journey into learning more about himself and embracing his identity. He has passed that acceptance and optimism down to his daughter, and the duo have since been unstoppable with helping others embrace their natural beauty.
