After waiting for nine months, the moment you are able to hold your baby for the first time can be an incredibly emotional experience. This is magnified when you have been waiting for years to have a child due to infertility.
The pain and disappointment that comes with fertility issues can affect the entire family, including the children waiting for their sibling. In a video posted to Instagram on March 4, 2021, João Prudencio Neto and his son David from Brazil are seen sobbing as they hold the new addition to their family. The emotion on their face is one of pure thankfulness for the precious gift they have in their hands.
The post said that Neto’s wife, Karolinne, is healthy and so is the baby girl, whom they have named Giovanna. The tears from Neto and David are from pure joy and gratitude for the infant that they have called a “miracle.” After the birth of their first child, the couple struggled to conceive another baby. They decided to see a doctor, and Neto found out that he has a low sperm count, making him infertile.
Instead of undergoing fertility treatments, the couple turned to their faith and prayed for another baby. Amazingly, Karolinne was able to conceive and give birth to a healthy baby girl. Giovanna is adorable, and her father and brother couldn’t be happier that she is in their lives.
Neto is a pastor but said that he takes breaks from work to help take care of his baby girl. And after seeing how much David loves his little sister, there is no doubt he will be an incredible brother. Keep reading to learn more about this family and their journey through infertility.

The video that Neto posted on Instagram is very moving and has been viewed over 50,000 times. Seeing such raw emotion following the birth of a baby is incredibly touching, especially knowing how long this family has waited for their little girl.
Neto included a verse from the bible in the caption of his post. He also shared in his post, which has been translated from Portuguese, “After having our first child David, I became infertile. It was impossible to be a father again with zero sperm production. My wife @karolinneprudencio was healthy and also dreamed of having another child.”
The post continued: “Giovanna's birth is not only a blessing for our family but also for all those who dream of one day living the miracle that only Jesus can do. We prayed every day for a miracle. I became a father again without any artificial procedure. Glory to God! All this emotion is for the miracle that took place; my wife is very well and happy!”
The struggles that Neto faced with fertility are not uncommon. According to The American Society for Reproductive Medicine, “About one-third of infertility cases can be attributed to male factors and about one-third to factors that affect women. For the remaining one-third of infertile couples, infertility is caused by a combination of problems in both partners or, in about 20 percent of cases, is unexplained.”
There are many reasons why a man may become infertile. The National Infertility Association says, “Male infertility can be a result of physical, hormonal, genetic, or immunologic problems, and chronic illness.”
