There will be many things that the year 2019 will be remembered for like the explosion of country and hip-hop fusion hits such as "Old Town Road" by Little Nas X and "The Git Up" by Blanco Brown will also be recalled as being part of a year when musicians not only took chances but also relied on YouTube to increase their popularity.

Country/hip-hop is succeeding because artists are mindful that danceable tunes are what many people like. To this effect, both Little Nas X and Blanco Brown developed novelty dance routines for their hits; the latter went as far as creating a tutorial video for "Git Up" for the purpose of challenging fans to get down and show YouTube audiences that they have what it takes to "Git Up ."

The Git Up Challenge consists of getting friends and family to learn and follow Blanco's dance moves, which are fun and infectious. As with other internet challenges, this one managed to go viral very quickly, but one particularly video shared by DJ Rhett and his little daughter Meg has really resonated with the YouTube crowd, thereby increasing the viral quotient of the dance challenge.

The setting of the video is the family room of Mr. Rhett's home. Meg and her father are dressed in matching country attire, and Blanco's hit song plays on the television set. It is evident that both dancers have taken the time to review the tutorial and practiced the moves, but their synchronicity is something else. Mr. Rhett posted the video on his personal YouTube profile, and it gathered thousands of views within a couple of weeks from people passing the clip around. By the time you read this, the view count of this adorable video will be in the hundreds of thousands.

There is something else driving the viral status of this video, and it is related to parenting. It takes a special kind of father to understand that his little daughter is growing up in the Information Age; in fact, many fathers do not think too positively about the idea of recording dancing videos to post on YouTube. We can see Meg's elation on the video, and this is all that matters.

What do you think about this video? Does it prompt a healthy conversation about the roles of parents in the YouTube era? Feel free to pass this along to your relatives and friends, particularly those who are not familiar with country/hip-hop fusion. Better yet, why don't you encourage them to take on The Git Up Challenge themselves? A fun reward for completing this challenge would be a pizza dinner.
