Most people who own a dog, cat or any type of pet care greatly for their furry (or maybe not so furry) friends. Many of us consider our pets part of the family and form close bonds with our animal companions. One of the worst fears a pet owner has is the thought of their pet suddenly disappearing or running away. Not only because we would miss our pets, but also because we would be constantly worried about their health and happiness. Dogs and cats are part of the family and the anxiety that comes from knowing that they are lost and on their own in the world can be overwhelming.

In a March 2020 story out of Colorado, a family's pet dog ran away and was subsequently found by a FedEx driver, who returned the beloved animal to her home. Knowing that your pet is lost is one of the worst feelings imaginable and Lisa Menzies, the owner of the dog of this story, had to experience this terrible feeling while also unable to do anything about it. She and her family were not at home when the incident happened, but their doorbell camera captured it all on video.

Thankfully, they were able to count on a dedicated FedEx driver to deliver the 61-pound package back to their home. Despite the fact that it took time out of his busy day, this unknown hero was there to make sure this family would not be missing one of its members a second longer than they had to.

Lisa Menzies of Castle Pines loves her 3-year-old Golden Retriever Catcher with all her heart. In March 2020, while Lisa and her husband were out of town, Catcher ran away from their home.

Speaking with reporters from KDVR, Lisa told of how the family was having work done on their home that day: "We were getting some repairs done on the house. Our contractor left to go to lunch and shut the front door — and the wind blew the door open while I was gone, and Catcher escaped."
Lisa was alerted to the incident thanks to her Ring doorbell, which recorded Catcher’s escape.

A million different thoughts ran through Lisa’s mind as the terrible situation unfolded before her eyes. Lisa worried that her beloved pooch would be stolen or run over on a busy highway. Even worse was the knowledge that she could do anything about it as she was out of town at the moment. She literally had to watch it happen without being able to do a single thing. Thankfully, a good samaritan stepped in and put an end to Lisa’s anxiety.

While Lisa was trying to come up with some way to search for her dog from miles away, she got a text from a FedEx driver, alerting her to the fact that he had found Catcher. The brief text message told the worried dog mommy that he would be returning Catcher to the address on his tag. Lisa could hardly believe her luck. From one second she went from terribly worried to terribly relieved.

She told KDVR: "He just said, ‘I found your dog, and the address on her tag is where I’m going to take her’ and then he put her in the house with such care."

A few minutes after she had received the text, the anonymous FedEx driver pulled up to Lisa’s home. Exiting the truck with the cuddly canine, the deliveryman brought Catcher inside the family’s home and closed the door behind him, making sure that the entryway was locked. Despite the fact that she was not home at the time, Lisa was able to follow every move on her doorbell camera.

Again talking to KDVR, Lisa says that when she watched the footage, the tenderness and care the driver displayed made her think of the song "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion, the theme of the 1997 "Titanic" film. She went on to add that her family definitely thinks of this unknown driver as their hero:
"He interrupted his day and his package delivery schedule to pick her up and hand carry her into our home and lock the door behind him. I don’t want to think about where else she could have ended up. He is certainly our family’s hero."

Catcher is once again roaming around the Menzies’ home, entertaining the family with his playful antics because of the kindness of the FedEx driver. Lisa made sure to praise the driver in her interview with reporters, noting how he took time out of his day and interrupted his delivery route all to make sure that Catcher could be safe.
